Wow...what is wrong with people!!!??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 5/9, returned to work yesterday part time. It is just amazing how people react or don't react. Most of the people in the office talked about how good I looked and checked on how I was feeling, etc. However, the 2 girls who are supposed to my friends...have not said the first thing to me about it!! Now one of them has been strolling through the office with Cookies asking everyone but me if I want one. Of course I wouldn't take one anyway...but she is making the biggest scene!! WTF??

<smh> People are such dorks! I am sorry you had to go back to that. Sounds very immature to me. The person passing out the Cookies, does she have a weight problem? I know I have two heavy women ( ok I'm three) where I work and sometimes weight lose issues can become awkward. ( I don't even talk about it) Do you think your "friend" could be feeling threatened? You just hang in there babe and when your able to eat again YOU be the one passing out the soy chips and hummus ! <wink>

eww gross to the wenches at your job! some people can't stand when other people do things that better themselves, and they all want other people to fail.

keep on losing, and FTP (fck that puta)

Laurinda-Yes...in fact both of them are heavy and always talk about loosing weight but it usually lasts a day. The one handing out the Cookies is acting so strange...it is hard to even figure out what she is thinking. In my previous attempts to diet she would be the first one trying to sabatoge it by offering me stuff...so who knows. I love the saying "Thin feels better than food tastes" When I am all slim and trim...I will tell them that!! ha ha. Thanks for the encouragment!

Be the better person though. Show them your success through your actions.......feeling awesome, wearing great clothes, being positive. Don't let them drag you down into their mind games.

Sounds to me like your "friend" can't stand the thought that you have made a discussion to better yourself. For me I don't even bother to talk about it. I just do my thang and know in the end I will be so very glad I did! Good-Luck

2B--only one word. Jealous.

Feel sorry for them. Bless them in your heart, smile at your success and go on your way.

They are not mad at you; they are angry with themselves. But if they acknowledge THAT, they may have to actually do something about it.

You are an easy target for now. Try to let it roll off of you--just keep thinking how you are taking charge for a wonderful and healthy YOU!

Judy

That is one of the reasons I chose not to tell anyone. I didn't want the 20/20 questions and everyone watching me as the weight came or or not. I was banded since Dec. 2007 (a gift to myself) and still no one knows. I will never tell anyone. It is my body, my life, and my journey. I am sorry your co-workers are such dorks. Stay positive and always smile and be polite. It sounds like they may be a little jealous. Good luck with your band.

Best wishes to you and yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe they don't know if you want to talk about it. I would bring it up, and see how they react. As for the Cookies? I can't understand why anyone would flaunt food in front of you, but she might think that not offering one to you will help you avoid the temptation. Does she usually offer "goodies" to co-workers, or is this out of the norm for her? People can act very strange when they feel threatend. I would be willing to bet that she feels that her new (thin) friend (you) won't have room for her in your new life. Good luck. I hope that ya'll work through it. I'm sure that insecurity is playing a big role in their attitue, and actions toward you.

Well, honestly - there are people who will be supportive:smile:, people who will surprise you and then there are people who are really not your friends at all - I guess these women may fall into that category - and jealousy is no excuse for acting the way you say they are.

Smile, be happy, and let it go, move on - You do not need anyones approval and you don't need to make them happy or figure them out - that isn't your problem :rolleyes:

I think it is entirely possible that your coworkers feel threatened by you. After all, if you are sucessful in your weight loss then that just makes them look and feel even worse because they are not losing. I actually had a few friends try to discourage me before surgery and I think it was because I had always been bigger than them and they didn't want the tables turned. Just hang in there and try to be nice!

Just wait for the day, when you are closer to your goal (and she is not) and you can walk about the office offering (a healthy) cookie yourself. There is no reason you can't work occassionally these foods into your daily diet plan. Make sure you eat one right in front of her, and you then smooth down the fabric over your slim hips and tummy *evil laugh*

I have a friend much the same - she has always relied on me being slightly heavier than her - and already I've lost enough to be smaller than her. Since my surgery she has been crash dieting. I find it kind of amusing, and it really doesn't negatively impact me.

My sister in law is a classic enabler; she's been married three times and every husband was an alcoholic, and she pushes food on my husband (her brother) and me all the time. When we were on Atkins she would invite us over for Pasta and mexican food. ????? And by the way, she is not heavy herself.

I've given up on trying to figure it out. Otherwise she is a very nice person, so we just laugh and say, "There she goes again" when she goes into her food pusher identity. Just realize that the problem isn't yours; it's theirs.

Oh heavens where's your sarcasm?

I'd be like, "Yo, Cookie Momma, you go on and eat two Cookies for me. The fat has got to go somehwere, because it's flying off of me!"

Or if you want to be more kind, "Wow, those look so good, if I were more paranoid I'd think you were trying to sabotage me. But of course I'm not the center of the universe, I'm sure you made those delicious looking Cookies to Celebrate the insert reason here. Everyone will enjoy them I'm sure."

Then there's blunt, "Keep the cookies away from me, I still need to keep temptation as far away as possible!"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
