Unforutnatly, my Dr. told I dont have to do the pre-op diet since I am only 100 lbs over weight. But I would like to still do the pre-op diet to see if I have the determination to lose the weight and to shake a few pounds off. I have read a few post regarding the pe-op diet and none of them list items I can buy from the grocrery store except for the caranation Breakfast. Also, has anyone used the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control shakes from Walmart for the pre-op diet?

hi lalaredd,

I'm about 80 lbs overweight prior to surgery and my doctor still put me on preop diet. i guess he just wanted my stomach to be ready .

i did all my pre-op diet using stuff you can get from Rite Aid, GNC, Wal-mart, and Target.

my doctor told me to consume atleast 60 grams of Protein per day, no more than 20 grams of fat, and less than 10 grams of sugar (i'm diabetic).

I've tasted many Ready to drink shakes, and I would say that EAS AdvantEdge is the best taste out there (for ready to drink). For 17 g of Protein, it's about 110 calories. Make sure you get the 17 g of protein, the other ones may have more protein, but they tasted yucky....

You can also do Kellogg Protein Water powder. Walmart sells them for about $ 5 per box, there's 10 packets in each box. Each packets can be mix with 16 oz. of Water. I drink them iced cold. It tastes pretty good. that's 30 cal/ 5g of protein.

At walmart you can also get the Protein Powder, i read the from LBT that many people use the Body Fortress and they just loved it. So i bought it and i use about 1 scoop to make 2, 1-cup serving of protein Jello. (get the Fat free sugar free Jello if you can). just remember you have to mix protein with cold water, not the hot one...

From time to time I would also drink the Glucerna. it's about 200 calories and it has 10 grams of protein. The strawberry one tastes like strawberry milk.

i got banded on May 12th. this past two days i've been enjoying Lactaid Fat free milk with Inst Breakfast - no sugar. For 150 calories, you get 14 grams of protein... not bad at all....

Hope this info helps. If you need more info, or i'm not explaining it clearly, just let me know okay?

I was about 100 lbs overweight and my doctor also put me on the pre-op liquid diet. I asked at his office why they don't do everyone, and they said it is determined during the examination by the surgeon. I think if he/she thinks the liver is fatty and they want to shrink it to make surgery easier they do it.

I had Atkins Advantage (ready to drink) and EAS Advantage (powder to mix with skim milk), purchased at Target. I found Worldwide Protein shakes (ready to drink) at Trader Joe's in vanilla and chocolate. It comes in 21g and 35g of Protein, and to me tastes better than Atkins. I discovered recently that GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe carry Worldwide, and it also comes in banana cream, Cookies and cream, and strawberry. I found them online so I don't know what the stores carry. They only had 35g online. At Trader Joes the 21s cost $1.69 and the 35s cost about $2.29. There is also a website called powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and they sell powdered protein to mix with skim milk or Crystal Light(the strawberry flavor only for Crystal Light). Comes in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, chicken Soup (kind of like chicken broth), and unflavored. I found a cookbook link to livingafterwls.com and bought the cookbook, recipes all by wls patients. One is super easy: make up a package of sugar/fat free Jello pudding, adding a scoop of unflavored Unjury. This bumps up the protein content of the pudding.< /p>

On the full liquid diet I could have broth, tea, coffee, cream Soups, sugar/fat free popsicles and pudding, yogurt, V8 juice, fruit juice (diluted 50% with Water to reduce carbs) and Protein drinks. To ease me into the liquids, the dietician said I could have a small amount of lean protein, so at night when I would tend to overeat the most, I grilled two unbreaded chicken breast tenders and put salt and pepper on them, or I had two hard boiled eggs with salt and pepper. Four days before surgery strictly liquids. I lost around 35 pounds before surgery. I was a little hungry during the day, but I expected that, and work is so busy I didn't have time to dwell on it. So far I have lost 65 pounds. I was banded 3/25/08.

I am about 100 lbs overweight and will be starting my liquid pre-op diet soon. My understanding of the preop diet is that it is not about losing weight so much, as it is about shrinking your liver. Part of the liver lays over the stomach and must be lifted out of the way during surgery. The surgeon wants you on the liquid diet which is high in Protein to shrink that liver, making surgery easier. Check with your doctor about it. I was told to drink low-carb slimfast or Atkins shakes which can both be bought at your grocery store. I was also given the option of drinking Optifast, but you must order it online. I am to drink a shake a breakfast and lunch, taking 1 hour to drink each one to help with feeling full and decrease hunger. I am allowed 1 lean protein at dinner (like baked chicken) and steamed veggies. Other than that, that's it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
