Hello everyone. My name is Sarah, and I'm a wife and mother of one, living in the greater Chicago area. I'm currently in the process of receiving the Lap-Band Procedure with Day One Health in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Jonathan Myers is my surgeon, and I'm really anxious to have the surgery. I am feeling very positive about how this procedure will change my life, and I look forward to losing 80-120 pounds! I think it's definitely going to be easier using the Lap-Band as a tool for weight loss. Does anyone have any advice regarding the pre-op liquid diet or anything else I may not have considered? I really look forward to hearing your thoughts!

-Sarah H.

Find a Protein shake you like. I went through packs and packs of Protein shakes before settling on one. ( I found I don't like the kind you make, only the premade stuff- I prefer Atkins Advantage ).

Good luck on your journey!! :) Welcome to the site!

Hi there! I have found Myoplex and EAS Carb Control shakes that I like. I am definitely worried about protein, because not so long ago (when I became pregnant for the first time), I had a protein deficiency and lost a good amount of hair (I even had a bald spot!!!). I am also stocking up on diet Wyler's single packs of drink mix, so that I can drink something all day. Luckily, at my work, there is an endless supply of fresh ice and cold cold water! I'm going to check out Dr. Melissa MdCreery's program for Emotional Eaters, as well ... I think this may help me after I have my surgery. I think everything happens for a reason, and I've decided to have this surgery for a reason ... It is a good thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
