wow. never had surgery before...well...a couple years ago, pulled wisdom teeth and they took my tongue ring out.

lol.

SO!!...:out:....can we keep body jewelry in? as long as it doesn't interfere with the ... surgical vicinity? lol. or is it one of those things...metals not allowed..or something? :( lol. :wink2::blushing::smile:

Kristy,

Unfortunately you have to take all of your piercings out. I have my tongue pierced as well and what I did was I brought a little zip lock baggy with me and kept it in until I went into the pre-op room. My mom held onto it for me and then once I was out of surgery I put all my piercings back in no problem. Good luck! :wink2:

They will require you to take out all jewellery. I know people who will not take off their wedding ring and they'll usually allow that through but as for anything else, usually not.

I haven't been banded yet but I did have another surgery a couple years ago. At that time a nurse called me a day or two before surgery, went over any medications that I am on and told me whether or not I should take them on the day of surgery and what I needed to do to prepare i.e. fasting, arranging a ride, best clothing to wear etc. , she also said no makeup, no lotion, no perfume, no deoderant, no jewlery, no contacts, no dentures or partials...

Hey. I work in the OR. Yes, you have to take them out. If you are concerned about the wholes closing, ask them for an 18 angiocath.(write it down). You can put the silastic end of the tube on the end of your piercing, and pull it through the whole at the same time you're removing the ring.........make sense? We do it all the time. Just secure it in place with a piece of tape. You need to remove ALL metal because of potential burns caused by the electrosurgical equipment. Trust me, even though the risk is minimal with the latest technology, you do NOT want a burn!!!!! Also, they don't want you to lose, or have the jewelry ripped out being caught on sheets/drapes. Wedding rings are sometimes allowed as long as tape is applied over them, however, it truly is in your best interest to just leave them at home........ Good luck!

It depends on the area of the body and the hospital. I had knee surgery and did not have to take out any of my piercings. For the lapband I had to take them ALL out... the electric current they use can cause burns if it archs and hits the metal. better safe than sorry.

What about braces? I've heard they are a different type of metal. Just asking because I have braces and they haven't said anything about what they do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
