Soy candles or regular scented jar candles?

Recommended Posts

What are your thought on candles these days. My sister had cancer and afterwards went through a time where she got anything out of the house that could be a carcinogen. This happen to include her favorite brand of jar candle that is in most malls. (She loves sugar cookie or was it Christmas cookie) Anyway I don't remember if it had something to do with the scents they were using or what but now says it's better to buy soy candles.

I love my candles and buy them as gifts a lot and was wondering if you all have opinions on the matter or knowledge about this.

Thanks brandyII.:smile:/:wink2:

Hey BII, you know I have an opinion on everything......

My opinion is this: Have you read down the list of known carcinogens? It is sooooo insanely long that it would almost be easier to read a list of things that didn't cause cancer. So, unless you are at an increased risk (compromised immune system, recovering from a previous cancer, etc) it's probably ok to go with regular candles.

I live in LA where people have alot of allergies and asthma and soy is the way to go. These people say that they can burn these candles and it does not bother them and I myself hate candles but I love the ones I have and no longer throw candles away when my hubby lights them lol :wink2: . It's cleaner, healthier and the ones I burn are 90% soot free and made of soy, beeswax, vegitables and plants. So I would definetly always buy soy candles. Hope this helps any more questions please feel free to email me at tmshebert@netscape.com

Have a great day!!!

I used to buy the jar candles...any old kind. Now I burn only soy candles. We remodeled our home and have a lot of white or light colored walls. Not wanting to soot them up. We pulled borders off of our walls b/4 the remodel and could not believe how sooty our walls were from burning the reg. candles. It's been seven years of burning soy and have not come across any soot. The fact that we raise soybeans comes into play with my decision also

No I don't feel like reading them either that's why I posted it! But I know with my sister, and her bday is coming up too soon, that she was really proactive on that type of thing after she had her surgery to remove her tumor and has calmed down a bit but still I don't take a chance with my sister or elderly peeps etc... This girl is an ex-cigarette smoker/ex-coffee drinker and let me tell you for her to give those two up was a major thing!

Hi!

good subject. I normally buy my candles from oldfashionedcandlecompany.com. They have great scents and are so much cheaper than ones in the stores or at those home parties. They are all soy and also lead free wicks.

I did break down and buy a cheap jar candle at Kmart last winter, and it was awful!!! There was soot all over my house. It travelled up the stairs, into the fridge, and basement too! it stuck to anything plastic! I called the candle company to complain and they sent me a CASE of them! yuck!

Only soy for me ! learned my lesson!

Thanks Tania,

I bought some of the soy "beans" I forget if that's what they were called or not but instead of using a Mall Store "tart" for my tart warmer I ued these Beans or beads and they were nice. Maybe I should get more of them too! I searched on line for the soy candles and a pretty large one came up but I still don't know if the shades that I have from the other candle store would fit the jars from the soy candle store. I know such troubles! I guess I can just call and ask, they didn't seem to sell their own shades etc... thanks brandyII.

Wow I was going to say I didn't even know they've been around that long. My daughter used to be vegan so we've ingested many a soybean but not burned them. I definitely think I'll go with soy you all have convinced me. Thanks brandyII.

Scarlett,

Didn't even know about lead in wicks, great:frown:. Thanks for the tip on the company too, it's not the same one I originally found while searching the web. That's a funny story about the case of candles you got from Kmart. Thanks brandyII.

I quit buying variety store candles a long time ago because of soot and the really strong scents of some. It was just awful! I typically use beeswax ones, but am going to look into the soy ones. Beeswax can be expensive too.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
