Just reading everyone's post gets me excited about when I will get to the point of having a date for surgery.

I have finished my psych evals, my doctor's appt is May 27th, and then my education date is June 10th. I had no idea about the pre-op diet, and find it interesting to hear everyone's story.

One question that I have, that I have not seen any information on : Will the cravings for food diminish? I feel that I need something turned off in my brain - and I get that when I take phentermine, but eventually, I get off track and start eating again. So what do ya'll have to say? Do you feel the cravings diminish?

Casargirl, for me, my cravings disappeared the first two months, then I had them hit mon/tues, not the same as before, so I had a cookie, a small pc choc, a few nuts, the craving went away, but then I got a headache, now I feel like, I dont want those things. The craving when it did hit was nothing like in the past. In the past I would have had a whole bunch of Cookies and the entire candy bar and lots of nuts, this time a few bites satisfied the urge right away. As I right this I have no urge for them. Not so in the past. I also dont want food all the time like in the past. When I eat my meals, small as they may be, I am satisfied, I can walk away and dont need or want more. Its a great feeling.

As far as pre-op diets, not all Dr's put their patients on pre-op diets. I know many bandsters with different Dr's in my area that did not have to go on pre-op diets before surgery, including myself. I guess it depends on the Dr. and the patients condition.

My cravings for fast food and junk food have all gone away. I will sometimes get a sudden urge for McDonalds when someone at my office is eating it but it goes away in a few minutes and im over it. One of my addictions is chocolate and I still have some a few times a week in small quantities of course but nothing like before I had surgery.

good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
