why is this happening?

Ok, for the last couple of days I have been having a wierd time eating. I can eat two or three bites, then I have major pains cause I'm over stuffed. Then, I sit still for 10-15 minutes, wait for a few HUGE burps, feel better and then can eat tons! What is this all about? I was going to go for a fill next week because I'm always hungry, and I can eat quite a bit. But, now I'm not so sure. Advise please.

It might be that you're biting off too much. You should be eating pea sized bites of your food and chewing VERY thoroughly to make it mushy and moist. It will slowly, evenly, filter through your band.

If you swallow bigger pieces, they will go down hard (or get stuck). If they pass, they might be stretching your band.

I know that if I eat longer than 30 minutes, I hit that "unrestricted" space you're talking about, where suddenly I can eat more. :cursing:

Hey kate, just wanted to see how you are doing in the long term. seems like most people on here are newbies. glad to talk to a few who have had the band for a while. I am real curious about the long term of it. thanks hope to hear from you soon, famrika

I have the same thing happen to me when I eat to fast. Slow down but don't over eat just because you can. It is hard sometimes to stop but it gets easier to know when you are full.

Small bites and CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!

I noticed when I'm stressed or rushed that the same thing happens. I actually don't eat when I'm feeling rushed because I know what to anticipate.

I'm having the exact same thing happen since my last fill two weeks ago. It only happens in the evening. I eat three bites and I'm stuck for about 15 - 20 minutes. Sorry, but three tiny bites DOES NOT satisfy my hunger. Especially if I've just come home from a hard Water aerobics session. It usually goes down, and then I can eat just fine. Matter of fact, I can eat quite a bit. It's just the first three bites. I've also noticed that every time I eat, about an hour afterward, my band area starts to ache. It doesn't hurt when I'm eating. It's always WELL afterward. What's up with that?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
