Mark....I'm so happy you're doing this good! Just think how cool it's gonna be when you hit that stage a lean, mean singing machine! Just follow your doctor's and most importantly your wife's orders!

Yes I did that Barium and it was really fast. I have a question though. When they set the band the first time is it totally open? If so can you eat just as normal with an open band? Or do they set it at 1cc or something small like that to start with.

Did they even do the barium swallow test on you? That really is fast!

I have heard some doctors put some saline in, but the majority don't. This is a time for healing not losing weight. You will be swollen for a while, then when the swelling goes down, you will know it because you will begin to get hungry. This is totally normal! Most doctors will not give you a fill for at least 6 weeks out, and it is because they want the band to seed in place and heal. That is why you are on liquids, then mushies, and then solids. Each doctor is different too, and that is why we always tell you to follow YOUR doctors rules!

I hope this explains it enough! I also hope you are doing better! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
