Hi everyone. I'm starting to look into the Lap Band procedure and I know next to nothing about it. It sounds good because it's less invasive than gastic bypass and sounds safer. I've asked my insurance to send their requirements and coverage info and waiting on that. I have a consulation with True Results in Atlanta next month.

I really want to talk to real people that have had this done, so here I am! I want to know the good AND bad. I do not want to be talked into something that isn't right for me and if I do decide to go ahead I want all the info I can get.

My main question right now after skimming some of the info is: why do you have to go on a diet BEFORE your surgery? Is it to be healthier for the surgery so less complications? Or are they trying to see if you can stick to a diet and lose weight? If that's the case, then why have the surgery at all? I can certainly do a diet. I've lost the same 50+ pounds so many times I've lost count! I can lose weight. Or at least I could when I was younger. I'm 44 now and my body is not working like it used to. Anyway, I can lost weight through diet and exercise, but I obviously CANNOT keep it off for any length of time. Which is why I'm looking into this.

They want you to lose weight because it shrinks your liver the first thing that gains or loses fat is your liver. When they do the laporscope they use this special tool to hold your liver out of the way and if there is to much fat around it then it cant be held up and you can't have surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
