ok, I just got my third fill, after loosing 50 pounds.

until now, I only threw up 2 or 3 times in the past 6 months, and it might not have been really throwing up, it may have been more "sliming" or PB.

in the 5 days since my last fill (which is actually only 3 days of eating solid food) I have thrown up maybe 5 times - again, maybe the better way to discribe it is PB or sliming.

effectivly, about half the time when I eat something solid, and it has been a wide variety of different things, afer about 3 or 4 tablespoons full, I feel a pain in my chest, and feel shortness of breath, and then I feel like I really need to burp but can't. then I go to the toilet, and puke up some thick white liquid.

1. can this type of "vomiting" hurt my band or stretch out my stomoch?

2. is this going to pass? or is the trick to learn what I can tolerate and what I can't?

thanks

Globetrotter, call your doctor immediately. From personal experience, you definitely need a slight unfill.

As for damaging your band, yes, it's a strong possibility, more so, if you're "really" throwing up. This can put a strain on the band as well as your esophagus.

Bottom line, what you're experiencing is NOT normal.

Let us know how you're doing.

Yes...according to my doctor this can most definetly lead to slippage and dilation of the esophogas. Really the only way is to get a partial unfill. Not the whole thing, but you are most likely way too tight. I don't promote staying on liquids until things pass because I personally don't think it is healthy (and either does my doctor). Sometimes it doesn't pass. I was on liquids and mushies for almost 1 month because I could not get to my doctor because of weather (I live 6+ hours away and on the other side of the mountain range). Not once did it get better. I was MISERABLE So my suggestion would be to get a small unfill...it might only take like 0.2 cc before you fee better.

Hope you feel better!

I was going to post this EXACT question!!

Since my 3rd fill, I can not eat solids without extreme pressure in the middle of my chest and then it is off to the restroom. I thought it might be caused because I never had decent restriction till now. But I am going to call my doctor today for that slight unfill. Liquids are no problem but anything solid causes too much discomfort and this discomfort lasts for several hours AFTER the episode. It has been a very long week so off to the doctor it is.

I had the same problem after my 6th fill. Went for 2 weeks before I finally went back for an unfill. I realized that I have allergies that without the band went undetected. The white yucky stuff I was throwing up was mucus. My food had no where to go due to my pouch being full of mucus. I started taking Claritin (over the counter) and it has helped a lot. I had the same symptoms of pain in the chest when I would eat, then I would throw up. So I would say you need an unfill and maybe ask your Dr. about allergy meds. Good luck to you!

thanks - unfortunatly, to add to the complications, I am traveling internationally for the next two weeks, I had a fill on Thursday and fly out on Saturday night, before I returned to real solid foods. so I will have to be very very careful until I can get back for an unfill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
