i had my surgery on 04/21/08 and my first fill today, 05/19/08. during my consultation, my surgeon said he would most likely use the Realize band. I found out today during my fill (not given by my surgeon) that i actually have a Lap band. She didn't know why he decided to switch.

also, she said i already had 1.5cc in my 10cc band that was given to me during surgery and she gave me another 1.8cc today for a total of 3.8cc. i didn't think they put the band in with any Water? how many cc's will it take to feel a decent amount of restriction?

the good news is, i've lost 14 pounds during this first month and it was hard work. my dr's office said i did great and a lot of people don't lose anything during the first month after surgery.

I was told that the decision concerning which band to use would be made once they were in and could visualize the anatomy.

I have an 8cc band and was filled to four during surgery. I'm just about three weeks post-op and just beginning to feel like I'm hungry.

I had three ccs put in a ten cc lap band. I've had restriction from day one, although mild restriction and I like it that way.

I had my first fill today. I had a 10 cc lapband that was filled to 4 cc's during surgery. I felt full for the first month with little food, but this past week I started eating more. Since I've had a satisfactory weight loss - 18 lbs in 6 weeks, he felt it best to add just 1 cc today. I feel it best to go slow but I will monitor it very closely before my next visit next month to really tell how full I feel and the amounts I eat.

Kris, were you told to go Clear liquids for two days after your fill? I'm just curious if all doctors give that advice.

Alice,

My doctor's "rules after fills" is the day of fill Clear Liquids only, day after fill full liquids, two days after fill mushies and three days after fill regular foods.

I was also banded on 4/21/08 and have lost 17.4 pounds so far. I am starting to feel less and less full between meals. I'm scheduled to go to the doctor on June 5th, it will probably be the date of my first fill.

deb, i'm not sure if your doctor does fills under flouro but try to find a video to watch about it because it totally freaked me out! i watched a regular fill being done but wasn't expecting the first fill under flouro. i was standing up and the dr sprayed some numbing stuff on my port incision and came right at me with the needle. i didn't think... i just reacted and grabbed her arm before the needle got to my stomach. i guess i didn't think i would be numb enough yet. it happened so quick! i did apologize for grabbing her (oops!)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
