HELP! Worried Insurance (Cigna) will not cover . . .

Recommended Posts

:(:scared2::scared2:I am new to the process and I have Cigna insurance. Has anyone been approved that has Cigna? Declined?

I'm right at 40 BMI with no good factors that put me at risk.:scared2:

i have cigna, and i had no problems. you'll have to do a 6 month diet, though. of course, i believe that it all depends on who your employer is, not who your insurance is. employers can choose to pay or not. but if they do pay for it, then cigna was pretty good. once the doc's office got all the info to them, i got the approval in less than a week.

I have Cigna PPO. The first time I turned in the application for predetermination for the lap band, I was denied. It took them 30 days just to say NO. Then I appealed it within 2 weeks and 3 weeks later they came back and said Approved. Cigna told me I was denied because they needed records from my primary care physician stating my BMI was at least 40 1 year ago, since I had no co morbidities. Just don't give up and make sure you give them all the info they want and they will approved it.

Like you, I have Cigna and a BMI of 40 (no co-morbids). I have not submitted my paperwork yet. The surgeon's office suggested I get additional detail from the doctor who supervised my 6 month diet. Also, my plan requires a 5 year weight history. If you read other posts, some people get have to jump through hoops, others get approval quickly. I think it depends on who reviews the paperwork and if you submit in the exact format they expect. Talk to the insurance/billing person in your surgeon's office. They generally know what each insurer requires. Good luck. T

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
