Just Starting the process

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

My name is Lyn and I have been poking around this site for a couple of weeks now. I thought it was time to introduce myself. I am just barely starting the process. I meet with my new PCP next week to get a referral to the weight loss center at Cedars Sanai here in LA. I am very excited and scared all at the same time. I actually made it to the center last year and even had a consult with the surgeon then chickened out. I have gone back and forth with this decision. I keep thinking that if I just try a little bit harder I can do this on my own. Well a year and twenty pounds later I have finally come to terms with this and know that I need help. I surrender! I can't do it on my own, not long term. I have found tons of motivation and determination on this site. Everytime I get scared and start to change my mind again I sign-on and read the post and sucess stories and I know that this is what I want. I can't keep hiding behind the pounds. I am tired of being invisible. I will keep you all posted of my progress.

Welcome to LBT. I wish you luck in starting your journey again. I understand totally not being able to do this on your own. The band will be a great tool for us all who are still not banded. Again good luck and I like the quote in your signature. Hope to hear from you throughout your process.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
