An interesting article for those who weigh everyday...

Recommended Posts

I am a daily weigher as well. I do not think it is an obsession and I do NOT freak out about a pound or so up or down. I am aware of Fluid retention and Constipation, hormonal fluctuations, etc. I like to keep myself accountable, and the daily weight check does just that. So far it has not failed me.

Hello. My name is Christine and I'm an addict.

I weigh myself every morning. Get up, go pee, step on the scale.

I really think it's only a detriment if you let the number determine what kind of day you're going to have.

My surgeon recommends that I weigh every day for the rest of my life. He said it's a lot easier to fix a 5 pound weight gain than it is a 30 lb weight gain. If it ever becomes something that messes with my mind or makes me upset or uptight, then I'll cut back, but for now I'm fine with it.

I remember reading a post a while back written by a woman who said she'd been in tears over a 2 lb weight gain. I thought to myself that someone who is that affected by the numbers on the scale shouldn't be a daily weigher.

Guilty as charged. But let me ask you this, how often do thin people way themselves to keep on track. If you want to be thin, think like the thin do

This is why I am afraid of having a scale in the house. I was banded on May 19th. Though I can clearly see a difference in my face, hands, and jeans - having lost some Water weight, I have yet to step on a scale.

Right now, I have no desire to.

I know the minute I go out and buy a scale, I will become obsessed.

BUT, I will need to track my progress though...I think I will buy one this weekend, weigh in on Mondays and have my husband hide the scale from me until the next weigh in day. That is the only weigh I won't become obsessed, weighing myself everyday. :wink2:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
