What does a good fill feel like

Recommended Posts

I'm with ya. I've had two fills and I don't feel any different. Thank goodness I get my third one today. I'm going to beg for more than just 1cc. Good grief the band holds 14 and so far I only have 3. I feel like I'm at a stand still and not losing any weight.

Second fill??? Please! I get my 6th on Wednessay. I know I am almost at my sweet spot, because I do get full alot quicker than I used to, and the full felling lasts for up to about 3-4 hours, but I can still eat more than a cup of food.

When you get to your sweet spot you should be losing 5-10lbs a month and eating about a cup of food. Believe me..it takes time to get there. If you are lucky the next fill will be your last..that's what I"m hoping for me.

The "sweet spot" is enough restriction that you're very full and are losing weight, but not so much that you throw everything up.

I hit my sweet spot after fill #4. I no longer crave food all the time. My mindset about food and eating has totally changed. I no longer order based on what the portion is going to be (is it going to be enough?!)... I am a total 'foodie' now where I sit down and really ENJOY the taste, and the texture of my meals.

You'll know your sweet spot when you can eat enough that you are satisfied, and then you are satisfied for a longer period of time. I eat what I want, in small quantities till I am satisfied... I don't PB at all, because I STOP when I feel satisfied...

kgloverii, I'm getting jealous. it sounds like bliss. I was banded in Feb. and had 3 fills the last one had me vomiting for 2 days so I went back for a unfil. But other than the 2 days of vomiting, I havn't lost a pound. I have some restriction but it's just a tiny drop.I'm really frustrated. any advice?

What are you eating? Are you compensating for the PBing by eating liquid everything? That often promotes weight gain cause you are never full...

I'd follow a liquid diet for 2 days or so to make sure your pouch is not stretched... Then make sure you're eating carefully, chewing everything... and if you don't have enough restriction, eat a bit bulkier foods if you can tolerate them. You may have to go back to get filled a couple times to get tweaked to the right spot. My doc told me not being able to eat much in the AM is a big sign I am there... and I agree... but everyone's experience is different.

It took me 6 months to get a sweet spot, and I was very patient. My last fill, my doc told me that according to Inamed, their recommendation was 1 cc for the feeling I was looking for... he thought, but he recommended 1/2 cc since I was not able to eat much in the am. I told him to split it down the middle and do 3/4 cc. It was magic... BTW.. I have the VG band, a 10 cc band, so the fill amount is higher than with a 4 cc band... I am now at like 6.75 in a 10 cc band and perfect... for now!

I agree with kgloverii. I use to wake up very hungry. Now I wake up and I am never hungry. I use to constantly think about food and now I don't. I eat very little and I am satisfied for hours. I can usually go 5-6 hours before I am hungry again. I have had 5 fills. I don't know how many cc's I have. I have the band that holds 4 cc's. I was banded on Dec. 26, 2007 (a gift to myself). I know it is frustrating but you will get there. It has taken me 5 fills to get here. I don't weight myself because I start thinking about my weight constantly and I have allowed it to take over my thoughts in the past. I know I have lost weight because my jeans are very loose. Good luck!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
