If you are going along fine, with no problems, and then suddenly develop continual reflux or symptoms of a too-tight band (without the obvious causes of not eating properly or a recent fill) it could mean slippage. It can be verified with an x-ray and barium swallow test.

If yours did slip, you probably won't feel it at first. Mine happened after I got a hianial hernia almost two years after surgery (that would be 1999). Besides late night acid reflux/indigestion, there was actual pressure on my band. It was excruciating. Getting an Xray confirmed the slippage. My band was on an angle.

I got a revision in Sept. 2004, and haven't had reflux since. Please see your doctor to put your mind at ease. Good luck!

Tell me what a revision costs? I just went to the doctor today and have a "very minor slippage" that he says we need to keep an eye on & that if my appetite becomes uncontrolable he will have to go in and fix the band. I paid for this myself and hope that it takes care of itself, but if not I'm curious at the cost of having to repair it costs.

My Dr. told me that when it slips u will throw up and wont be able to keep anything down... and they will do an total unfill.. they wont do any type of sugery or anything... and u will have to be on liquids only until it falls back into place...

I have been combing through these discussions looking for someone who might have similar situations as I do. My band makes me always uncomforable. severe reflux at night. Wake up choking and coughing from reflux several times a night. My band isn't new. It is a small one only 4cc and I believe I have 2 ccs in it. I do have periods of feeling hungry, but the reflux and pain make me not want to eat. After reading the threads it seems like I may have a slippage. I'm going to try the all liquids and see if it gets better. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Get to the doctor. I experienced the same thing and your band is to tight. I kept thinking as I lost weight the band would become looser and everything would become perfect. It only got worse. By the time I went to see my doctor I was sleeping in almost an upright position due to acid reflux. I doubt you have a slippage but it does sound like you are to tight.

ECH...reflux and night coughing are two warning signs that my doctor asks about at every visit.

I suggest you get to the doctor.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
