Anybody gotten sick?

Recommended Posts

Has any Febsters been really sick with the band yet?? I haven't had any major problems since being banded but now I've got the sinus crap with the sore throat and now it's spreading to the lungs and making me hack and cough. I don't think coughing hurts the band, right? I'm scared the pills will be too big to take or it might effect my band. I'm suppose to get a fill tomorrow.. :-( Has anybody else gone through this yet?

I've just had bad, bad allergies. Sneezing a ton and sometimes feel a little pain in the port area but the doctor didn't seem too concerned about it. As far as pills go, try to get everything in liquid. I had to have a prescription rewritten even though I told them liquid before hand. You can take em by crushing them and then putting them in yogurt or SF pudding but it's such a pain. Tylenol Liquid Blast and I were good friends when I had a toothache.

Hey CC, My doc gave me a card for any prescription med that I get to either be cut or in liquid form. I take prenatal Vitamins on my own and just cut them myself..so I would think your pills should be okay, but as far as your coughing?? I don't know?? I have sinus drainage all the time but so far it hasn't bothered my band that I know of. Hope you're feeling better!

I've had the sinus crap that you are talking about. I think it was allergies to the construction dust in my office, sore throat, cough, etc for two weeks. My main problem was nothing sounded good to eat but ice cream (not a real good choice for a lap band patient) I called the doctor and asked for cough Syrup and she sent more Loratab elixer, If I had known that would work I would have taken some of what I had. Now I have two bottles and have probably taken four teaspoons of it. GRRRRRRR. It makes me have weird dreams but the coughing stops so I guess it is a trade off.

Hot tea helped the sore throat too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
