JohnG 0 Posted May 19, 2008 Greetings! I was banded on the 14th and still can't swallow more than about 1/2 teaspoon maximum (I measured) at a time and the pain is quite intense internally. Feels similar to when you swallow a bunch of air. I have the same reaction with hot, warm and cold liquids, whether clear or Protein Drink. I was able to drink maybe 24 ounces total yesterday with the tiniest sips, each one being painful. Have others experienced this or should I be concerned? (Again, this is an internal thing; my incision and entry points do not pain me at all and have never, with or without pain killer. That part is amazing me!) Thank you in advance! mamapony 0 Posted May 19, 2008 That sounds way wrong. The only time I get pain is when I mix fluids with meat or doughy items. i was banded on 5/7/08 and have had real food, crab legs, rice, etc no problem. Fluids with solids cause some pain, just need to pace when one or the other is ingested. chicken must be chewed extra well. Call the doc, pain with liquids isn't right. kfd 0 Posted May 19, 2008 Hi John...I got my band on the 15th. At first I just did not realize that I would have to take small sips spaced well apart as I was so dehydrated from the surgery...I would say I feel gassy or bubbly inside when I drink but would not describe it is as pain. I have not been able to have very much but am feeling better each day....wishing you well...Kathleen
JohnG 0 Posted May 19, 2008 But you have a full week of healing over me. When were you able to have some food and no longer just liquids? I am still on just Clear Liquids and trying to sip the Protein shake so I can get some nutrition into me. The pain was there from when I woke up from surgery. They gave me some ice chips and swallowing was very painful, like I could feel it go through two "locks" in my system once it hit the bottom of my esophagus. Thanks! Enchanted 2 Posted May 20, 2008 Seems like a call to your doc is in order here. I was only allowed to drink 1 ounce of Water every 20 minutes during my first days post-op. I couldn't get all of that down. I'm just about three weeks post-op now and can drink much more (still having trouble getting in my 64 ounces even though I used to drink about a gallon a day). Check in with your doc...even if only for peace of mind.
