I'm 7 days post op. The first 2 weeks are suppose to be Clear liquids, followed by mushy foods for two weeks, then pureaed the next two. I havn't made it to week two yet, and I'm already hungry and wanting more. My doc. said the band is pretty lose right now. According to the discharge information, the clear liquid phase is to prevent neausea and vomiting. I don't feel even the slightest bit near neausea, and started adding some mushy foods, pudding and potatoe and a little fruit yesterday, with no trouble. Did anyone else experience the same?

Also, all you people who've been banded a while, can you eat ANY bread of any kind? Just curious, my information says not to as it won't go through the band.

Hi Linda,

You'll find by reading here that different doctors give very different advice as to post-op diets. My clear liquid phase was only 1-2 days! After that I could go on to full liquids, and I found that fairly satisfying. Cream Soups, especially, helped to fill my belly.

Once I started on mushies I took it really slow for a few days, waiting between bites to see if I had any unpleasant reactions. It wasn't hard to tell what might be too much, too soon. I think your body will tell you, too, so just be really careful to pay attention and stop when it's time.

Congratulations on becoming a bandster!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
