6 weeks post op have a ?

Recommended Posts

i haven't had a fill because last week when I was supposed to get it, i told the dr that i feel like i have some restriction and can't eat over a certain amount etc. He said no fill til you feel you need it, it's your choice. So I came home everything was still fine. i watch what i eat I follow the rules for the most part. no this is not a I haven't lost 50 million pounds in 6 weeks rant!

On Sat, I woke up had my Protein Shake for Breakfast, about an hour later, i got a horrible bout of heart burn and took zantac, I felt awful. a few minutes later i was dripping sweat and was really nauseas. I ended up vomiting a few times. 20 minutes later the pain was gone and I felt fine. Felt fine the rest of the day, stuck to Soup and liquids. today i had my Protein shake for breakfast, and was fine, had a normal lunch (half a tuna sandwich on oat grain bread and was going to have a small apple but could only eat 2 slices of it). I have felt like i have a LOT of restriction now, not that it hurts going down, no pain or anything, but maybe just from swelling?

The other thing is I keep getting these hiccup type burps or something where it actually causes a pain, not painful, but just something I notice. Is that just the stoma being irritated? Any ideas i would appreciate greatly!

Usually when I hiccup or hiccup/burp (the worst!) It usually is a sign that I should be done eating OR that I have eaten too quickly OR not chewed enough. Your stoma probably was irritated from vomiting but you did the right thing to go back to liquids. I feel that I would not have needed my 1st fill for a long time, but because of the distance between where I live and my doctor (6+ hour drive) I went in on the first day I was cleared to get a fill because it fit in my schedule. You might just be one of the lucky ones that gets restriction with just their band. I am at goal and trying to stop losing weight so I had a complete unfill, and I am still too restricted at times. I did not tolerate fills well at all.

So I would think that if you are not having any more heartburn and it does not hurt while eating that you are probably alright. If either one of those things return for unexpected reasons then I would see my doc. There are several people who have never needed a fill to lose weight.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Sounds like you have some swelling. You did the right thing by sticking to liquids. I would move back to a soft diet and go from there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
