Fit Flops Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Havent seen those on the market here, but I"m a birkenstock addict. And you can get really CUTE birks, they're not all hideous orthopaedic nightmares for hairy legged Helgas! I've got red patent ones, and silver ones and black patent ones and ones with a red asian print, and swirly orange, yellow and red ones!

I cannot wear crap shoes, my heels and back just wont tolerate it. I can wear a heel for work as long as I'm not doing too much walking, but for my daily/home life, I have to wear good supportive shoes.

A friend of mine at work bought these, I think. I know her legs were killing her the first day. I'll check with her today and see what she thought of them.

Aveamora - sorry but the woman I know who has them was off today so I'll have to ask her tomorrow.

Well, I had a $25 Macy's gift card and a $10 Macy's coupon, so I splurged today, paying a total of $14.99. I must say they are interesting and pretty comfortable. I give them a :(.

Ready, why do you say you will never be able to wear them?

I have weird feet. Flip flops won't stay on, and I would get too many looks anyway.

Oh well. If something had to be messed up I guess I would rather it be my feet.

I saw these on the news the other night (last week?) and they said that if you are just wanting to have proper support for your feet and maybe do some work on your lower calves, they would be fine but the claims they make for them (toning all the way to the buttocks and helping with thunder thighs) is too much of a stretch for something like that. They talked to a local foot doctor and he liked them for problem feet but that's about all. I'll jump off real quick and see if I can find the link for the news report.

Thanks Heartfire. That article proved pretty much what I thought, but that is okay.

I have bone spurs on my left foot but they are not too bad. I can fly up and down the stairs in these things because of all of the cushion. I don't really expect to turn into miss sexy legs, but every little bit helps.

aveamora,

Do you have a lot of pain with your spurs? The one on the bottom of my heal actually made my Plantar Fascia feel better b/c it made the over-stretched Fascia not so stretched out. It will become painful if I don't wear the proper shoes or go barefoot too long (which happens often since I live in bare feet at home!). It's the one on the back of my heal that is so painful. If I don't wear proper shoes with lots of cushion, it over-stretches my Achilles tendon and the pain is bad.

Maybe I should take another look at these shoes! I love that you got them for such a great price!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
