question on protein shakes

Recommended Posts

Alright, I figure here is one of the best places to ask, what's the best brand of Protein Shake? I already picked up some from the store, and for the sake of taking off some of the weight i put on due to stress, I'm going to drink on for Breakfast every morning in the hope to shed some pounds before an upcoming trip in 5 weeks  I'm meeting up with a bunch of good friends, and also meeting a guy who i've known online for a couple years, and just over the last 6 months or so, well, it's possible we may decided to date each other after meeting this summer, so i'd like to look a little nicer for when we meet :tt2: yeah, yeah, pathetic i know... anyways... I'll need to know at some point which shakes to buy since i should be having surgery in a couple months or sooner. The ones I picked up at the store yesterday are called AdvantEdge carb control by EAS. the nutrition facts are as follows:

Total Fat: 3g

Saturated Fat: 0g

Trans Fat: 0g

Cholesterol: 20mg

Sodium: 260mg

Potassium: 440mg

Total Carbohydrate: 2g

Dietary Fiber: 1g

Sugars: 0g

Protein: 17g

What do you guys think? is there a better one out there that I should be buying after being banded? :confused2:

Thank you in advance for any help!!

Hey, I was just banded on May 8th and that is exactly the Protein Shakes that I bought. The chocolate one is my favorite. And I like them very cold or over ice. Good Luck meeting your online friend in person. Sounds exciting!

This is the same question I was going to ask. I start my "non-required, but doing it on my own" liquid diet starting tueday which is exactly 2 weeks for before my surgery. I was going to go visit The Vitamin Shoppe tomorrow to get my chewable vitamins and talk to someone about high protien low-calorie shakes. Besides Water and shakes what else can I have on a liquid diet?

I am required to do the liquid Protein I can have the EAS shakes or Adkins. Other things that I can have are.

Protein powder mixed with Water or hood milk (they recommend unjury or any brand containing whey protein)

chicken or Beef broth (1 cup)

sugar free Jello (1/2 cup)

Crystal Light

Carb control yogurt smoothies (no more than on per day)

They also recommended Citrocel because the Fiber makes you feel full but I just don't like that stuff...

Have something every 2-3 hours as needed to control hunger.

I am extremely picky about my Protein Shakes. I just found one yesterday that is called Chike banana Magic. If you like banana flavoring, this is great b/c it cuts the poor smell of whey Protein and the taste isn't that bad. I've also used most of the Unjury flavored ones... chocolate, strawberry, etc. nectar has Chocolate Truffle. I've also heard that Now has some great tasting ones too. My surgeon had Lapband and these are his favorites. The Chike has 27g of protein. Good luck!

i have been drinking a carnation sugar free instant breakfast with 8oz of milk and 1/3 cup of dry milk....that is 23gms of protein..

I also have used Kaski Go Lean Protein Shakes and they are awesome!! a bit higher in the carbs, but i am not on "liquids" yet as i am waiting for my approval from the insurance..this is just something i am doing to get my body "ready" too! The Kashi shake has 29gms when milk is added, then i add 1/3 cup dry milk to it for 37gms of Protein. They really fill you up!!!

Best tasting with the least amount of Protein after taste to me are the New life styles diet shake you can get them online.. just type that into google..They offer many flavors plus savory items too.... OR if you need something off the shelf then Carnation sugar free.... or Atkins work well too....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
