Emotional eating.. need advice....

Recommended Posts

In the past whenever I lost even the smallest amount of weight, whether it was 5 or 10 lbs. I always had the mentality that I could reward myself because I lost weight and could have treats, or eat whatever I wanted. I know it sounds stupid, but instead of rewarding myself with "things" I rewarded myself with food.< /p>

And now that I'm banded, it's no different..... I am still rewarding myself. I'll get on the scale and if I've lost a lb. or 2 lbs. I find myself "picking" at food, or eating things I shouldn't. (like the chips, crackers and Cookies that NEVER get stuck). I know I could be MUCH farther ahead in my weight loss if I was actually sticking to a true bandster diet. I didn't pay $10,000.00 for nothing.

What does everyone else do? I am seriously considering getting some counseling for this.

I know that what I see as a reward is truly a punishment. I'm sabotaging my own success!

Help! I need advice!

I was wondering about that myself...I am a picker..I am not yet banded but I am trying not to graze. some days are better than others. My question to you seasoned bandsters is "Does the quick picker uppers like Cookies, cheeze-its, snacking stuff present a problem going down?"

I don't understand what the heck is going on with me. I never drank Pepsi before the band, but sometime last month I got in the habit of sipping on one in the afternoon as a treat. Now I'm hooked. I guess just shoot me.

I know what you mean Lisa. I've gotten into the habit of having a cup of the low carb cappichino (sp?) every night before I go to bed. That stuff has 70 calories in 2 tablespoons! Sheesh!

hopeful,

With my band the crackers and other snacky foods like that go down with absolutely NO problem whatsoever..... but the meat.. the stuff I should be eating first, sticks in my throat so bad that I've gotten to the point that I'm afraid to even try anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
