elective 1 year checkup (Endoscopy)

Recommended Posts

I got a letter about a month ago from true results (formerly lapband solutions) offering to do an elective follow up since i've had my band for over a year. I figured i'd go ahead and do it finding out that my insurance would cover it 100%.

I have to admit i'm a little scared having this done, I'm afraid that i'll wake up from it and find out something is wrong.

My most recent fill I did experience a lot of acid like problems daily but haven't had it for the past few weeks.

Has anybody else had this done after their one year? (later or before..) how did your procedure turn out?

I'm going in tomorrow at 10am for mine  :sneaky: :leaving:

One of the surgeons I talked with said that he requires all his patients to have the test at one year out to see that the band is still in the right place. It seemed like a good precaution to take. Since that's the only way they can see the band.

When I had my first endoscopy, I woke up to find that I had GERD and that I had pee'd myself during the exam.

I guess if you make it thru without peeing yourself, then Id say it went well

As much as I hate Endoscopy's I would say that a one year check just to be sure would be a good thing. It would give me even more confidence that the doctor was trying to see to my overall health and safety. And trust me I HATE endoscopy's. Badly with a passion. LOL

When my one year band anniversary came and i visited my Surgeon for my yearly follow up i disscused the endoscopy with him at that time. I also had recieved a letter stating i was due to have one. I had been and have been problem free from the beginning, there for i did not see it as an absolute necessity. Of course i wanted his input on this, and with his permission i elected to forgo the procedure for the time being.

Just got home from my endoscopy...so here's the results..

The good: band placement is fine, no slip, no erosion

The bad: pouch it dilated from being too tight, from the pictures they took there was still food in my pouch from when I ate at 8:30pm yesterday. They went ahead and removed 1cc from my band. I was at 7.9 cc's in my VG 11 band.

Ulcer was showing in the esophagus, he prescribed me nexium for that.

Also removed some polyps found in my esophagus as well

I just need to do a full liquid diet today, soft foods for tomorrow and then I can ease regular food back in.

I'm just glad it's over with, wish my pouched hadn't of dilated but I guess it's better than having something that CAN'T be easily fixed.

Did you have an endoscopy PRIOR to your surgery? I am just wondering if the polyps developed in the last year or if you had a clean endoscopy before the surgery. My surgeon wanted me to have one prior o my surgery and it was a breeze..in fact he did my endo and a colonoscopy before my surgery.

No I didn't, if I remember correctly the doctor thought they might have developed from the reflux.

I should find out in the next couple of days the status of the polyps but i'm not worried about it since most of those turn out benign (at least from what i've read).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
