For my family, the difference for us is whether or not we eat out. If I cook at home, it is definitely more costly to cook healthy meals than the cheaper meat and potato or Pasta dishes. But, even those costly healthy meals are MUCH cheaper than our monthly food bill for those months that we eat out several times a week (and unfortunately, that has been a norm for us for quite some time.) Since school will be out this week, I'll be a cooking fool. Guess I can put that money away for a new back to school wardrobe!!

Yes! Me too.

I do not buy diet foods anymore, either.

I do not have the deisre to purchase any more shakes, pills, plans, etc.

Plus I can buy food for a family of three and it will feed my family of 4.

And as an added bonus...I don't eat out as much anymore and that's saving me a ton.

Maybe it's me, or maybe after I'm banded I'll be spending less. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and I went shopping today for hopefully the next 2-3 weeks. I got to the register and had spent a little over $100 bucks. I have no idea how, I noramlly only spent $80-90 bucks for 2 weeks worth of food. I did buy these 1/2 cup storage containers to bring lunch to work. And a few measuring cups. I'm a little depressed now, $100 bucks is alot for food and all I bought was liquid stuff (yogurt, Jello, broth, Water, etc...) Oh well, only time will tell, if I spent less after I'm banded.

OK here is my truth.

I ate out at Breakfast out 5 times a week 5 dollars = 25/week

lunch out every day about 10 dollars = 70/week

dinner was out at least 5 times a week 15 dollars = 75/week

Then I would buy groceries for home about 30 every week

I spent 200 every week on food. Now I spend 50 every week on food.< /p>

I live alone so I dont buy for anyone but myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
