In a slump and in the dumps...

Recommended Posts

As for encouragement I kind of had the same thing happen, where I'd struggle for a few weeks then bam I'd lose one then two then one then three for a few days in row. Shhhh don't tell anyone but I'm a daily weigher.

Anyway, I thought of the days of loosing as fat just melting off me and dropping in little splats as I walked along. plop, plop, plop...I was losing weight...

My point is your pattern is typical for some bandsters, so don't stop doing the right thing.

My other point, is if you noticed I was writing in past tense, there are definate differences as to how we lose weight during the process so if you started one way then it changed that's also to be expected.

Keep up the good work, really you are on the right track.

I am a realist as well. I sometimes wonder how this band journey is going to end for me. Will I be another success story? Yes, It's up to me but I gained all of my weight over a long time and it may be a long time before I can get it off. The band isn't a quick fix and that was part of the reason me and my doc chose it for me. TY all for all the support!

Well Bullpen,

There's something in looking for a fix a quick one or otherwise. Certainly there are better and worse ways of behaving but thinking of oneself (and I'm extrapolating greatly here) as broken before the band and fixed after is setting oneself up for disaster, IMHO.

Be encouraged to know that the band helps one regulate their behavior and successful weight management is made more possible with it than without it.

And to be sassy, why in the world are you focused on the "end" and not the now? That's just filling your head with noise, it's really okay to not know the outcome of something, but still work toward a fulfilling goal. We get married with the hopeful outcome of a happy life together, but you never know the end until you get there. You and your band journey are not over until it's over, you know what I mean? We don't put matching burial plots on the gift registry when we get married because well that's morbid but you don't know what the future holds....

Froggi, feel free to post whether you are banded or not. Encouragement is wonderful, from the banded and non-banded.

Several days have gone by since my original post of in a slump and in the dumps. I managed to lose two pounds over the last few days! I am happy and my hope is renewed. I am under that 180 mark. Praise the Lord!

Congratulations Bullpen. My own experience with the band has been that my weight loss is VERY slow however when the scale does move it keeps going down and more importantly I am keeping off the weight I have lost so far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
