Everyone: list 3 POSITIVE things about the Lap Band!

Recommended Posts

Banded 4/22/08,

1. I had become a train wreck with my weight and fitness. I now taking back control.

2. I have slowly stopped buying nice things for myself as my weight kept rising. As I lose the weight I am rediscovering a whole wardrobe in my own closet.

3. My husband can "see me" again. I am not just a wife or a Mom. I can also be so much more...

In my short time "banded" I have lost 33 lbs, am working on my relationship with food and have given up caffine and sugar.

**** And this is only the begining******

The big number 1 would be... i can no longer binge!!

2 I can move with ease now and do not break a sweat after only a few steps.

3 I feed my shopping addiction rather then my food addiction!

I think this thread is great. There has been so many threads lately with negativity and saying they think they've been duped, or it's a hoax. This right here proves the band is a wonderful thing if you work hard and eat right.

We all know about the clothes and the being smaller thing but here are the unexpected joys that I absolutely love:

1. Not worrying about bumping into people and things in tight spaces.

2.Not spilling food on the front of all my tee-shirts, and having to throw them out after one wear.

3. Being able to scratch my entire back all by myself.

1) Satisfaction with food... AND LIFE. I finally know what it feels like not be be hungry all of the time.

2) The ability to wear cute clothes. I was tired of the tents I wore before and love being able to go to the juniors sections for the hottest trends...

3) The ability to run after my kids and KEEP UP. Looking forward to DOING stuff instead of dreading it....

Froggi ~

That was such an honest response. I share that same sentiment. Not that I don't do it thoroughly now but it would be nice if it was a little easier....things fit people never think about!!

1. Diddo to Froggie and Numbrgirl - and it is so nice to be right there without pulling back muscles or hurting myself just to go to the bathroom. Ah, the little things in life are sometimes the best.

2. Shopping!! Not just for shoes and cute purses (which were an addiction of mine). New clothes are awesome!!!

3. Being a part of my families lives (although this is my #1). I've been a watcher for way too long. I can get on the floor and play with my DDs. Wash their hair in the bathtub without pulling my back and gasping for breath. Having a healthy sexual relationship with my DH - rather than telling him I'm too tired or don't fee like it. I don't feel so inadequate anymore.

I'm looking forward to many many many more as the weight comes off!!!

1. I no longer have those horrible feelings of being a lazy failure who can't push away from the table and has no self control.

2. I don't read a menu with an eye to 'what will fill me up the most?' but instead ask myself 'what sounds good and healthy?' (and I can share an entree with my husband or have lunch for the next day every time!!!)

3. I come home from a trip and haven't gained 4 or 5 pounds- I might even have lost!

1. I've lost 32 lbs in 7 weeks--putting me under 300 lbs for the first time in 8-10 years!!

2. I can eat a little bit and feel full, I've never experienced that before

3. I just don't care about food that much anymore. At only 7 weeks out this surgery has helped me to change my unhealthy relationship with food from living to eat to eating to live!

So far...I LOVE MY BAND :biggrin2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
