I haven't been banded yet I go next week for my first appt. I'm scared to death. I don't know what to expect or what questions to ask. Does anybody out there have any tips or suggestions? I just don't know what to expect after I'm banded.

The important thing is to research on your own and make sure it's right for you.

I recommend you spend at least a hour a day on the internet learning about the surgery. Ask your doctor any questions that you have about the material you have read.

Ask YOURSELF, "can I live with eating very little for the rest of my life?"... that's the difficult one to resolve and a lot of people figure it out post-op.

What to expect post op: the post-op diet...

2 weeks of liquids and 2 weeks of mush. It is very hard and it is not pleasant and if you cheat, you hurt yourself a lot. Can you stick to that diet?

Thank you for answering my post. Thank you for the tips. That is a big question can I live with eating very little for the rest of my life. I've thought about that and one side of me says wow that is a lot to live with and the other says do you want to live? I have about 150 pounds to loose and I've tried every diet under the sun. Thank you again for answering my post.

You will be fine. It is overwhelming at first but your body will adjust and your mind will come along too........If you have 150 lbs to lose (like I do) what other logical choice is there? That is what keeps me going. Best wishes to you!!

I agree on doing your research before you proceed. I wish I had known about this forum before I had my surgery. My daughter will be having the surgery June 4. I told her about this site and told her to do research before her doctor visit. Be sure to talk to your doctor about any medications that you currently take. You may not be able to swallow them post-surgery. You might need to see if they can be crushed or come in liquid form. Be sure to understand exactly what your doctor's post-op diet restrictions are. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
