A weekend of cheating and loving it!!!

Recommended Posts

I was finally able to progress to real food last Tues, after 5 weeks of a full liquid diet!! Not once during that five weeks did I cheat, but this weekend is fair game. I was slowly testing the waters all week making sure I could tolerate what I was eating and minding portion sizes. No problems at all, not even with spicy food. In fact, I have discovered I don't have any restriction right now, except in my head (still scared of the band...). I have my first fill on Tues and everything may be VERY different, so I am eating yummy, not-so-healthy food tonight. I will have a fabulous mexican dinner 86 any and all fear or guilt!! It has been so long since we have been out and I do miss the taste and smell of good mexican food!! Then tomorrow, I am off to the gym with my new workout clothes, new ipod shuffle, and new membership. I have lost quite a bit of weight in the last 6 weeks, even with no exercise. I am so happy!! I will be unstoppable when I start working out!! I just hope the fill goes well?? Do I need to fast/liquid on Monday to get ready for the fill?

Best of luck towards a permanent lifestyle change. That is what I beleive will make us bandsters successful. Sounds like you are eager to get on track. You can do it! :leaving:

What your are doing this weekend with your "testing' the waters" is what I did repeatedly, and for many years, to gain all of my weight before I got my lap band. I would rationalize that my overeating would be just for today and tomorrow I'd be better. Thankfully, with restriction, I'm doing OK. I hope you will too, as time goes on. SS

TxChelsea--just a suggestion--why not go out to Mexican and eat like a "normal" person and really enjoy the company and the atmosphere? We have got to stop seeing food as a reward for good behavior OR a special treat. That doesn't mean don't enjoy yourself, but eat as a healthy person would and don't indulge.

Think how proud you will be of yourself that you have changed your scale numbers AND your behavior! And this is what it is all about--taking charge!! And isn't it damn time??? (believe me, I am writing to myself too!)

Sending you good thoughts about a successful fill.

Tx., Congratulations on lasting 5 weeks on full liquids w/o cheating. Wow. I was only on for 2 weeks and that was hard. Enjoy your Mexican food! I think you deserve to treat yourself after working so hard.

Yes, treat yourself! Treat yourself to a pedicure, treat yourself to a new CD, treat yourself with cute summer shoes--DON'T THINK OF food AS A TREAT! It is not a treat! It is nutrition!

I am sorry, Angelface, I do not mean any disrespect. But seeing food as a reward for ANYTHING is what got us here in the first place. We have to CHANGE that mindset. This is not a 5 week program; it's the rest of our lives!

Am I alone in thinking this?

I couldn't even make it 2 weeks on liquids so YOU GO GIRL!!! After first fill, the majority of people don't notice a difference, so pace yourself on the Mexican because it may be a while before you get restriction.

My doc says nothing to eat or drink at least 4 hours prior to fill...it maybe more if under fluro.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
