Husband doing great, but...

Recommended Posts

My husband was banded on May 1st and we go for a check up and his first fill on May 28th. So far, he is down 45 pounds from his seminar weight. He has stuck with mostly Soups, but is starting to eat softer foods. I didnt notice it so much with Soup, but he is eating more than i think he should be. He isnt eating like he did before the band, but said that he can tell the swelling has gone down because the doesnt have the restriction. For example, he is able to eat 1/2 a can of soup, or most of a one egg omelet with turkey and cheese. Is this going to cause problems with the band before he gets the fill and has restriction again. He was able to get full on the recommended servings when he was swollen from surgery. I was wondering how you all did before your first fill. :leaving:

It's common to be able to eat more than we need before the first fill. A lot of people actually gain weight during this time. I didn't gain weight but I didn't lose any either. Until the fill, your band isn't really restricting what you can eat very much, so you are feeling almost like you never got a band. When he gets his fills, he should feel different and you should start noticing the restriction.

i think the problem he may have, as i am trying to adjust to currently, is restricting what he allows himself to eat. i didnt get my first fill until 8 wks after (had a couple of postponements) my band. while waiting for my fill i could almost eat anything, not nearly as much as preband, but more than in the first few weeks of being banded.

now that i have had a fill, its hard to restrain myself from eating. even when i feel uncomfortable i want to keep eating. my dr. recommends 2 days Clear liquids, 2 days full liquids, 2 days mushies, then gradually back to food-this was so hard for me. i think if i would have gotten my fill sooner, before i started eating too much it would have been easier for me. now i have to re-adjust to the head hunger again, and try to work through that.

Thanks for the comments. I just want this to work so badly for him. Tonight for supper he ate 1 small pancake and 2 pieces of bacon. Not exactly recommended food, but definately not the feast he used to have. It is nice to be able to ask questions of people who know what it is like.

Just dont forget that it may take several fills before anyone may start having restriction!! And that that the first few months is more for healing then weight loss. Sounds like he is doing pretty typically. Best thing you can do is help him stay focused on eating healther and eating for his healing as his doc perscribed. And not worry to much about quantity right now.

I gather he doesnt want to post himself but knows you are? Because if I were him and I had a spouse watching everything I ate and reporting on it, and saying "should you be eating that?" etc etc I'd have to kill you and bury you in the backyard. That would drive me freaking nuts. He knows better than anyone when he's full and when he's not and its quite normal to not be full early on in this journey.

If he's fine with you taking on this role and is finding it supportive, my humble apologies, lol, but if you're hovering and driving him crazy, trust me, it wont help.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
