Informational seminar scheduled for June 2nd

Recommended Posts

It is the first step in the process for me.

Luckily, a coworker of my husband's went through the same clinic and has the same health insurance I do and she's offered to give me an overview of the process.

I'm impatient to get the process started, but who isn't?

Hi! I am from Sumter, so not far from you. Which program are you using? I am using Dr. Tribble at the Weight Management Center through Baptist.

Welcome to LBT and good luck going through the process. If I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate to give me a shout!:leaving:

It is so neat to see someone local!

I haven't decided on a doctor yet, but I'm going to the informational session at South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center, and they work through Lexington Medical. How did you choose your doctor?

I was already familiar with Dr. B. Tribble from a few years ago when my mom was sick and he and his brother worked on her at separate times. When I found out he is now doing Lap Band, my decision was made. He has a great bedside manner and is just an all around good guy. Of course, I still went to their seminar and verified his experience and everything. I have been happy with him and his staff is just awesome. They made all of my appointments and just called to tell me when I was supposed to be where. It has really been a pleasant experience. Good luck and keep in touch! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask away.

Kathy,

I think I mentioned in a previous post that I too am seeing Dr. Tribble. I was just wondering, what was the time frame for you from seminar to surgery? I went to the seminar on May 19th and they couldn't fit me into the schedule again until June 23rd. Also, regarding the $500 program fee, does insurance cover that or did you pay out of pocket? Thanks a bunch!!

You guys had to pay to start the process? I don't pay anything until surgery. What the insurance doesn't cover anyway. I guess every place is different.

Sorry I haven't answered sooner. I haven't been around as much as I should be!

I wen to my seminar in February and didn't have surgery until June, but that was my choice because I work for the school system and didn't want to have surgery until school was out. It really depends on your insurance pre-op requirements how long it will take you to get to surgery. They try to schedule all of your hospital testing for the same day, so that simplifies that part of it. If your insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet or extra nurition classes, naturally that slows you down a bit. The insurance does not cover the program fee, so that kinda sucks, but it was worth the $500 to me to have Dr. Tribble as my surgeon. He is the BEST!

How are things going for you now?

:biggrin2: I too, am using Dr. Tribble. My pre-op appointment is July 23rd. Do you know what to expect next? Pre-op diet?

So, have you done all of your pre-op testing at the hospital, nutrition class, etc. already? If so, once you see him on the 23rd, you should be getting submitted to insurance and waiting approval and a surgery date! His pre-op diet is not bad at all - 2 weeks of Atkins, but that doesn't start until the 2 weeks prior to surgery. Good luck!! If you have anymore questions or want to chat, drop me a note!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
