Post Surgery..Name 10 positive things

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if all those who've been losing since having surgery can list between 5 and 10 things that have changed for the positive. Can be any changes whether physical or mental. My surgery is monday afternoon (19th) and I need to get really psyched this weekend.....Thanks!!

I haven't had surgery but I can agree all Wasa listed sounds like my blues right now! Especially the shopping, my butt, and plane rides are toture...lol! You know when I travel overseas I can't even use the food tray cause my legs won't allow it to sit flat in my lap, and let's not talk about my legs getting numb from being squeezed together in that little ass seat! If decide to eat a little something on the plane it slides off the tray  How embarrasing????

But I am onnnn my way!!! Like Kanye West says, Ain't gon be able to tell me NOTHING! Lately his song is my motto!!!

The "quick hits":

1) I can buckle the seatbelt on an airplane without an extender or the belt cutting in to my gut all flight.

2) I am wearing clothes that I haven't gotten into for YEARS (why I kept them all this time is a whole OTHER issue)

3) I don't have to shop at the "plus size" shop anymore.

4) I have more control over food and eating. I can even fathom eating the amounts I used to eat.

5) By blood pressure is normal, my knees don't ache, I can walk up a flight of stairs, I have energy, I don't sweat so much, I sleep better....

The "longer term" items"

1) I feel better in my own skin.

2) I take myself more seriously and thus others do too.

3) I discovered I have more courage than I ever gave myself credit for.

4) I may not be the prettiest girl in the room, but I'm "in the running".

5) I am getting married in three months. I was oh so very lonely at 300lbs because I didn't want to meet anyone, or put myself out there. I met my fiancee six months after banding. I hadn't lost all my weight by a long shot, but I was so much more confident.

It's been a life changer, no doubt.

I have this little neurotic routine I do now when I go shopping. I went to Dillards today and decided to walk around the mall a bit. I saw Lane Giant and went in there, looked around, and did my usual. Under my breath I told Lane Giant she could kiss my skinny back side, I wasn't ever shopping there again. ;o)

I don't know why I have to do that but I can't pass that store without doing that.

I'm not even halfway to goal yet but here goes...

1. I am looking & feeling better

2. Men are coming my way again

3. Cut my BP meds in half

4. Diabetes is reasonably low again without meds

5. Exercising more and feel much fitter

6. Wearing jeans I grew out of

7. Want to go out socialising more

8. No longer feeling down about myself

I'm sure there'll be more to come after my next round of weightloss.

1) I found some courage in getting smaller and I'm back in school...soon to be in a new career

2) I'm healthier

3) I've gotten back into running...I'm doing 2.6 miles 5x a week and I LOVE it

4) Clothes fit better and look better on me

5) Men notice me...I get compliments

6) I carry myself better. My posture has improved and I don't MIND being noticed because I look better.

7) I don't get the pains in my legs anymore when I stand for a long time.

8) I have more confidence in myself in general - I'm better in social situations. My personality can shine through instead of me worrying the whole time that they're looking at my fat.

9) I'm cutting down the "bulk" in my closet by throwing out clothes that are too big (honestly, I still have a lot to throw out).

10) I used to dress to hide myself...I find myself looking at clothes now that are more flattering and feminine because I like looking good and being noticeable.

I was banded on April 8th and haven't gotten a fill yet. I have yet to lose a significant bunch of weight, but have mentally made a committment to make it work with the band.

I was able to make the following postive changes because of the band:

1) I quit smoking for my surgery and have now been smoke free for 48 days!! I smoked for 15 years.

2) I gave up carbonated drinks for the band, so haven't had a diet coke or "Monster" energy drink for 48 days. I had become dependent on huge amounts of caffine in my life and feel liberated now.

3) I am tremendously healthier now. I do some type of exercise every day-- gym, hiking, biking. running or walking.

4) I am much more aware of eveything I put in my mouth.

5) I feel better about my whole being

6) Clothes that haven't fit me in years fit me now.

7) My husband is a sports junkie, therefore, we have become close and do a lot more activities together.

8) I am starting to get muscles on my arms, and the ones on my legs are getting bigger.

9) I feel alot more confident in my athletic abilities. My husband drags me snowboardong every winter and I dread it. I am actually looking forward to it next year.

10) Finally, I have yo-yo dieted ever since I can remember. I have renewed faith that when I do lose the weight, I will be able to keep it off forever.

I am less than halfway to my goal but already so far there are so many things I am thankful for

1. on a plane when I put the tray down it now doesn't get jammed in between the rolls of fat on my stomach

2. at the gym today a guy I hadn't seen for a couple of months told me I look great (and he was right....I did!)

3. My jeans don't leave an indentation around my stomach any more

4. I can get in and out of my sports car more easily now

5. there is a gap between my stomach and the steering wheel when I drive now

6. No more lower back pain (I used to wake up with it every day)

7. shoulder pain from an injury has significantly reduced since losing weight.

8. I smile more I think

9. I can look in the mirror and I am starting to like what I see (I am aiming to one day love the person I see there)

10. Trying on clothes I haven't worn for years and finding that not only do they fit...some of them are too big for me now.

11. going to the gym and not feeling like the biggest person there

12. the increase in my self-confidence is wonderful, I walk taller and prouder.

oops more than 10 but my list is still not exhausted....I am so pleased I had the surgery.

I'm only 4 months out, but these are my positives thus far:

10. Men notice me, doors get opened, attention is paid.

9. Less self concious, I always used to think everyone was starting at me and that I disgusted people, now people stare, but I don't think its cause I look bad.

8. Don't hide in baggy clothes anymore. I always wore baggy sweatshirts and jeans, jackets even when it was hot to cover my fat rolls. Now I wear fitted clothes, in fact I put one of my older shirts on the other night and deemed it too baggy, even though my man said it was okay.

7. My mind is no longer pre-occupied with what my next meal is going to be.

6. More confidence- I feel sooo much better about myself.

5. Happier, smile wayyy more than before

4. Don't mind looking in the mirror, before when I would get out of the shower in the mornings and get ready, I would hurry up and dry off and put on my robe so I wouldn't have to look at myself.

3. Shopping, I actually enjoy shopping now, used to get sooo depressed when nothing fit. Now when something is tight if I like it I just go ahead and buy it cause I now I will be able to wear it in a few weeks.

2. Less fear- No fear of fitting into stuff, booths, movie seats, airplane seats, etc...

1. SEX- I can't believe nobody else has put this on yet, more sex, better sex for him and me, incredible SEX!!

HA! I'm certainly glad I'm not the only one that does weird little things to Lane Giant!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
