Realize band .. Want to share anything?

Recommended Posts

I am going to be banded on 06/02 and the surgeon wants to try what he calls a new band. He says it's really spectacular and he is only banding a select few on 06/02 with this band. Anyone heard anything on the Realize band?

Why would he only band a select few? It's a popular band.

My doctor said he uses both bands- Lap Band is used for any patients he does in out patient surgery at his clinic, if you go to the hospital they use Realize, he said there is no differance besides the name.

My Dr said there's not alot of difference in slippage, errosion, life span ect. But, the realize is more user friendly and can be placed in roughly 30 min as opposed to 60 for the lap band. The realize also has a low profile port. It is bigger in diameter but, as you loose weight you wont be able to see the port under your new svelt figure. Also, their on-line support is phenominal and their web site is awsome....I had choosen the realize band unfortunately, my surgeon was injuried & his partner only uses the "lap-band".

I hope this helped and check out the threads

Thank you all for your repsonses and the link to the thread. I couldn't find a single thread on realize. I like the idea of it being low profile because my belly is not really my problem area, so I'd hate to see a port in my bikini! LOL! ahhh haaaa haaaa haven't saw one of those bikini things since I was like uhhhhh 7.. he he he! I have been to the realize website and all so from what I can see it looks good to me....:woot: Thanks Beauties!!!!!!

No band takes 60 minutes to place. That is all on the surgeon, not the band. I have a lap band and it was place WITH a haital hernia repair in less than 40 minutes. The hernia repair takes 10-15 minutes or so.

Any surgeon that takes 60 minutes to place a band needs to evaluate his own skills vs. the band.

from what I understand it is really the same thing, just a different manufacturer. Everyone wants to get their fingers into this lucrative business. I work in surgery and see it all the time. Not sure your why your doc would choose a select few to use it on, if this was what he normally uses. Ask him if he is selecting a few to try it out on. If you're not comfortable with that, wait for another surgery date. If you're ok with it, and he/she is proficient with Lapband already, go for it. You are the patient. Get what you want. Good luck

Doesn't the doctor's comment to the OP sound a bit like a sales pitch? Come to ME, have your band on 6/2 and I'll give you a super duper special secret band that nooooobody else has....

It just doesn't sound very honest to me.

OP, study all the bands out there. Know the differences and get the one that you want, not a band based on a sales pitch. Personally, I prefer Inamed. They hold 4cc and you typically need fewer fills to get to your sweet spot. The bigger the band, the more fills you will typically need to get to the restriction that is right for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
