I had to wait for school to get out too, Shelley! We still have 2 more weeks, so I'm not scheduled until the 18th. It seems like it will never come!

Sounds like you're doing great. I had mine done 4-24. Start weight was 222 and now at 198. I'm on week five where you can eat regular food, but I'm scared to because I'm afraid I'll gain back what I lost.

Help????? Any ideas.

I'll just throw in my 2 cents worth-I had a great surgery and recovery, too. Never even touched the Morphine in the hospital and nothing more then Tylenol at home. 1 week later back at work, good as new. Can't say exactly why it went so well, no gas pain (luck?) little pain (luck again?). One thing I really feel helped me was I lost 30 pounds in the 2 1/2 months prior to surgery. My Dr. said "there will be plenty of room". Also followed all instructions for eating before, so I know I was healthy. I was told if I gained more then one pound from my last visit to the day of surgery, it would be cancelled, so no last binges for me! I can't say I expected the worst. I knew about all the problems that could happen, but I decided about 3 days before surgery that it was going to go great. That's what I told everyone, and that's what happened. Was it positive attitude that helped, or some sort of Precognition? Who knows. All you can do is your best to lose some weight before, follow all nutrition instructions before and after and remember it gets better, even if it's going pretty well to begin with. (I had a couple of middle-of-the-night moments of "what the hell did I DO this for!")

I was also banded on 13 May, but on the other side of the planet (Australia). I had two nights in hospital and am still staying with my parents while I get back on my feet.

The gas pain has been a real test, but my doctor suggested Infacol (used for babies' wind pain) and that seems to have eased it somewhat.

The main issue at the moment is trying to sleep - because of my size I have been sleeping with my head raised for a while, but due to the gas I have needed to sleep nearly upright. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it ever ease?

Regardless of these little issues, I have lost 10kgs (about 20lbs I think) since the surgery - Yay!!!

Thanks Kathy! . . I am still doing great because my mind is sooo much on the interview...I read and practiced answers all weekend..now I am just ready to get it over with and THEN I will be on to the next crisis...my Band day! I am trying not to focus on it because I don't want any nerves during this interview....I just tried on my outfit and took a picture so I could see how it looked.....

I just wished it was next year when I will have lost more! Of course, everyone says it looks great....I just hate seeing myself...I am sure many of you can relate!

To make matters worse the interview is video taped!!! Oh well, I'll do my best!

Here I go.....

Dear Jenlines

Soglad everything is going good. Have a question, am Isupposed to be on a pre surgery diet? My doctor hasn't told me anything about that.

I will be seeing him tomorrow Wed. My date is June 6th. Am a little nervous.

Thanks,

Most people do a pre surgery diet. I was expecting a liquid diet, but my Dr. put me on an Atkins-like diet instead. Prior to that I met with the Dietician twice to be on a "Pre" pre surgery diet. Which is how I lost so much before, and why I feel I was at my healthiest.

I have read of a few here who did not do a presurgery diet. I have no idea if there are any statistics to show who does better or worse. Anyone else know? I know that strict dieting before hand helps because you are so restricted for calories after. I would have been in a misery of low blood sugar if my body wasn't used to less.

Wow Shelley, it's Wednesday and I'm really thinking about you, as today is your big day! I'm a teacher in Texas, and we don't get out until June 5, so my pre-op diet begins on the 9th, and my big day is the 19th! I'm so excited.

Hi Margo!

Happy to hear you are doing so good!!! That's awsome. I will be banded and June 11th and I am so glad to hear that everyone is successful. Happy to travel this journey with so many wonderful, positive people.

Continued success!

Mo:laugh:

Good luck to you on your June 11th surgery date! I was banded May 13th and I've had a great experience. There was a screw up on my pain meds (liquid Oxy) and I haven't had any pain medications since the afternoon of my discharge from the hospital (May 14th). No Advil, Tylenol, etc.

My incisions (six of them) are healing nicely and I'm up and about, walking, working, cleaning the house, etc.

I'm very happy with my decision and I'm looking forward to a healthier, better life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
