Restriction luck

Recommended Posts

Jenna, BAD COP! No dognut! (sorry, couldn't resist!) Dang! why is everyone so hard on themselves? (Yeah, I know, I'm hard on myself too...)

I've been hard on myself becaue I am *only* loosing one pound a week. I was banded 5 weeks agao, and just transitioned to solids. I want it now!!!! I want the pounds to just magically melt off! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

I finally had to write in huge letters accross my bathroom mirror "this is the time for healing!" just to remind myself.

I don't get my first fill untill after I get home in late May.

Jenna, last night I was sick in bed sending you telepathic messages to call me. I had a fever and didn't want to go across the cold house to turn on my puter for your number, so I was willing you to call me. I guess our ESP is out of tune. May 7 is just around the corner, so you may as well enjoy life till then. Don't fret, restriction is on the way!

Hi ! I am new to the board. Haven't been banded yet, thinking about....my problem is I love sugar....I don't overeat that much except for sugar....however I eat often....emotional thing ya de ya de ya....If I thought this surgery would make food a "mere acquaintance" I would do it in a heart beat....I will have to pay myself....need to loose about 75 lbs....I sure would like to have a new best friend...

Its all very normal.

I was banded 8 weeks ago and the week before my first fill put on 3lb as I could eat anything and as much as I wanted.

1 week on from having my 1st fill and ive lost 8lb. The restriction has kicked in and my journey has now begun.

Good luck xx

Still maintaining that 15 loss. I swear I don't want to give it up!! I just hope I can hang on till May 7th. I am really trying to make some good choices eating. I am putting my food on small saucer plates to try and help my portions be controlled.

Today's food:

Small Protein shake for Breakfast (about 4 oz)

1 Lean Hot Pocket for lunch

6 Ritz crackers for a snack

dinner I had a 1/2 small BBQ chicken breast, about 1/2 cup of corn (about 3-4 spoon bites), and about 6 bites of stuffing.

As a bedtime snack I had a sugar free pudding freezer pop.

and Water all day long.......

I still think this is way too much food though but at least I am maintaining that precious 15 lbs!!

Jenna,

You mentioned you are getting your first fill on May 7th, are you going to Dr. Ortiz in TJ? I think I am going to make an appointment for that day as well! I'm working on flights now. I was banded on 3/2/05 by Dr. Ortiz and I found a Dr. in Houston (about 2 1/2 hours from me by car) that would do fills on Mexican banded patients. I got my first fill of 1.6 ccs. One thing I did notice though is that he did not draw the air out of the band before he put the fill in. This is something that Dr. Ortiz recommends in his book. I had restriction for a few days, and then sure enough back to eating the house!

I also have had a 15 pound loss since banding, but am now in that cycle of gaining 2-3 and losing the same 2-3!!

The Dr. in Houston decided to stop doing fills on patients other than those he banded, and I figured I'd rather go through the trouble of getting back to TJ because I really like the group over there. Dr. Martinez is supposed to be the "fill king" so we'll see if we can get lucky this time!!

Let me know if you'll be there on Sat. 5/7!!

Thanks,

Monica

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
