keeping it a secret

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks out and i have lost 38 pounds and have had two fills. I have keep it a secret from most people but only a handful of people know. I just wanted to keep it to my self and only let the people that need to know. It is getting harder to keep it a secret because every one is wanting to know how i am losing so much. I just tell them what i am doing and just not telling what i had done. Good luck:thumbup:

My wife is the only person who knows. I think once I start losing weight to the point where people start to notice I MAY say something. All my life I've seen people take shots at me and others because of my/our weight issues. Part of me went through with the band procedure to take back control of my life, the other part.......well...the other part is for selfish reasons at this point.

I've dieted all my life and it worked short term. It really ticks me off when people you don't even associate with feel the need to question you about your weight and feel the need to lecture you on the risks of being over-weight. As if I don't know I have a problem.

Lately I've had little tolerance for these types of people and have taken them to task. I've found that they change their tune rather quickly when a 333lbs 6'2" monster is ready to......well you get the picture. I'm just tired of it. I don't mean to sound like a mean S.O.B....I get my first fill this week, I just hope this works for me.

Thanks for letting me vent.

BD.

I dont let other people create my feelings for me. If someone thinks it's "the easy way out" they can try doing the liquid diets and shitting their pants.

This is your decision and only yours. If you are confident that this is what you want, then thats the end of the story.

Ive told quite a few people and they all have been supportive and interested in how it works. I dont go out of my way to tell them but if they ask me what am I doing to lose I usually dont hesitate to tell them. At work, only a few people have even noticed my weight loss even though its pretty obvious. The company I work for is very very "PC".

As I read this post I see everyone has differant reasons for hiding or sharing their LBS. I can relate, understand and agree with most of what everyone is saying.

I personally have not kept it a secret. My family, friends and close co-workers knew about it as the process started. Everyone knew I needed to drastically change my weight or face more health problems ( 5 hospital visits in the last 14 months). Everyone has been totally supportive thru out my journey. I'm selfish. I did this for me and my family. At this stage of my life I could care less about how others percieve my weight loss and how I did it.

I look at it like this; we really didn't worry what others thought as we became obese, why let their opinions affect how we become healthy.

One last comment. In the last month, 2 co-workers and a close friend have all had the LBS. I have another friend and another co-worker in the pre-op diet stage of having the LBS. Everyone of these people would ask questions about my experience with the Lap band. I was happy that I could answer some of their questions. I would like to believe that being open has helped them decide to follow thru with the LBS. My Doctors office and Nursing staff often joke that they are going to have to start paying me a finders fee for the referals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
