Diabetic Gear

Recommended Posts

Ok I know this isnt related to the band in any way but it is related to diabetes.

I am curious to know what everyone does about storing their meter/insulin/needles etc.

When I got my last meter I was thrilled at how small and compact it and its case is but now I regret it!

By the time I add in the control solution bottle, my log book, a few extra lancets and a few of the alchol pad packages the darn thing wont zip!! and of course its way to small to keep a pen too. LOL.

Am now looking for a seperate pouch for carrying around my insulin & needles. (pen type would cause me to have to inject twice compared to the needle/vial method)

Or just going to like Walmart and buying a larger makeup type pouch to put the whole mess in. trouble with that is it would all be a jumbled mess in that kind of pouch..

I carry around a larger purse For all of my stuff and my son has asthma so I have his inhalers.

I do not use teh controll solution much at all so I leave that at home.

I leave my log book at home and I just look up on the meters memory later when I get a chance to write it down.

Insulin and needles are a must

Good luck with yuor search I know I woudl love to go to a smaller purse but I have to much junk.

I take my pen with me because I only have one typ eof insulin to take during the day (novorapid). I have a meter at home and at work, so I don't need to carry it around at all. Have supplies of strips, lancets etc at each place. I found that really helps not to carry around everything - I feel less "burdened" by having to test all the time.

In the colder months of the year I have my purse I can carry it all in but now that its warmer I tend to use my fanny pack more often then a purse. Which is why I am suddenly finding that the small case my meter has is terribly unsufficent.

I can always leave the stuff in the van I guess or just start carrying a larger bag I guess. lol

My BF recently started with a pen type but he is having the same problem. I think he should carry it with him to work but he says no to that. He hasn't got to the point he can give himself his own shots yet even. He is terribly fearfull of needles.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
