Hello Everyone

I just made the decision yesterday to go for the band! I am very excited and I DON'T want to wait!

My question is...

Since I have PPO insurance (UHC Choice Plus) I am able to avoid the 6 months of nutrition classes, etc...

What is the typical time frame between the first consult and the actual procedure? I know every doctor and situation is diff...Just looking for general time frames.

Edited to add: My initial consult is May 23rd in San Diego, CA (http://www.lajollasurgical.com/)

I will attend the seminar on June 3rd.

I also have UHC Choice plus and from the time my Dr submitted my paperwork, had all the tests done... it took a bout a month.

Good Luck on your lapband journey!

I found it was easier to go through the nurse at United Healthcare. Dial 1-866-534-7209. I asked the doctors office to forward everything to the nurse, not the insurance company. The nurse spoke to the director after receiving everything and had me approved in 3 days.

It took me longer to get all my pre req. done and then schedule my surgery than it did to get approved.

One thing that Jill did tell me was that because my BMI is over 40 i was automatically approved. I also have a PPO and it didn't seem to make a difference.

Let me know how you do.

Mary

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
