Hello everyone!

I was banded in april and I was told to take flintston chewables. Well My OB Dr told me that I should be taking other Vitamins also like B12 or some kinds like that and one of them is the one you put under your tongue to desolve. My question is what kind of Vitamins should I get or take??

What is everyone else taking??

Thanks for the help!

Kristy

It's possible that your OB is used to working with gastric bypass patients and not banded patients.

If you are eating a balanced diet, the Multivitamin is probably all you need. Check the label -- does it already have B12? Most multivites do.

If you are not getting in your dairy, then you might consider adding a Calcium+Magnesium supplement if the multivite doesn't have enough Calcium in it.

And finally, if you are not eating a balanced diet, or are eating too little, then you might consider tracking your food intake on something like FitDay which will show you your nutritional info and you can see exactly where you need to supplement based on trends (i.e. you are always way low on Calcium or something)

My doctor told me that the children's Vitamins didn't have enough of the vitamins u need. I found chewable Centrum vitamins at Walmart. They are adult strength. They are orange flavored and not too bad tasting. They have the adult doses of the Vitamin and minerals u need. I am also on the lookout for a good tasting chewable Calcium. anyone have any ideas on that one??:confused2:

i was banded in july 07 and have lost 80 lbs. your physician is wrong. your physician doesnt understand that you had a restricting procedure, not a malabsorptive procedure. 2 flintstones a day will supply you with the nutrients that you need to maintain good health with respect to Vitamins. You may want to know who am i that i can contradict what a physician says, I am also an obstetrician. If you need any more help, let me know.

My Dr. says 2 Vitamins a day if they are childrens, one if adult, and a complete B Vitamin daily. I just got liquid B's at Whole Foods because I couldn't swallow the B Vitamin. I also take 2 chewable Flintstone's daily. I just bought the chocolate calcium chews from Walmart, because I am definitely not getting the required calcuim daily.

MyDestiny - Is this amount of Vitamins going to hurt me? When I get my blood test are they checking vitamin levels?

most Vitamins are Water soluble, so if you take too much of a water soluble Vitamin, you will wash it though your urine. doctors do not generally check vitamin levels unless there is anemia documented. Then they will check Iron, folate and B12 levels. the only vitamins that can be dangerous if ingested in high levels are a,d,e and k.

Don't see any mention of chewable vitamins specifically made for lap band patients. I'm taking "Bariatric Advantage" Vita Band-watermelon flavor. Available online @ Bariatric Advantage - Nutritional supplements, Vitamins, Proteins, and Help for Gastric Bypass, Distal, Lap Band, Realize, Stomaphyx and Duodenal Switch Surgery Patients. I'm programming my mind to think of them as "dessert", think it will work?

These are the vites that my registered dietician recommends. I am very particular about what's in my meds and food and these are certified pure. Many vites haven't been checked by anyone, much less multiple groups. These are the best you can get.

Also, just in case the obstetrician on the board didn't know this... B12 deficiency is something that many diabetics have due to the meds they take. And it really is difficult to get the quanitity of vites and nutrition in the amount of food we are now able to eat. I've been Iron deficient my whole life and will possibly have to have b12 shots as well. All of the women in my family are on meds for this.

Also, back to vites... if you're taking a Calcium supplement, try to find one that has a calcium citrate formulation instead of the Calcium carbonate that most have. Vites like calcium and magnesium with a carbonate formulation will cause Constipation.< /p>

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
