Eating And More Eating

Recommended Posts

I am just at the beginning of the lapband journey, I have seen my surgeon and my Eval is schedule for next week, My PCP has approved my procedure, My medical records were mailed off today to the surgeon's office to be prepared for the insurance company to review...My problem is that since I have decided to have the lapband procedure and waiting for approval I have been eating all bad foods, I quess thinking in the back of my mind ( I'd better eat all I can now, because in a couple months all that bad stuff will and must stop). Am I crazy or what???? Has anyone gone and done the bad eating and eating:w00t: thing?????Before pre-op surgery???????

Yes, most of us have been right where you are now. Weird thing is I look back and think about how I could have done without the farewell to food tour after insurance approval. I don't really miss anything...really, not at all. Most things I was shoving down before my preop diet I can have in some form, i.e., take the bun off the hamburger, order the Pasta Sauce without the Pasta and just chicken, low carb ice cream occasionally, etc. Now I am seeking the Proteins out first out of habit.

Be strong, especially on your preop diet. You can do it! You have come this far already!!!

Hi Gigim,

I think many of us have gone through that. I know I did. Not to any great extent - because I had to have 3 months of supervised diet before getting approved - so I was committed to loosing weight and still eating better. But yeah, there were plenty of "last meals." Going to that favorite restaurant, buffet "one last time"; Baking Cookies, eating popcorn w/ butter. Knowing very well that 'soon' I wouldn't be able to eat that stuff. I particularly went out to eat in March at a favorite restaurant to have beer-batter, deep fried scallops and french fries -- for one final time! What I realized is that - after eating right for 3 months - it really didn't taste that good anymore and made me feel uncomfortable. Then I realized I was ready for the changes having a band would include.

So, while you get more 'into' the whole mindset that will be needed for making this life-long lifestyle change, expect you will want to have "last meals" but try to eat healthier other times in between. And eat less of those bad foods.

I really have to say, at this point -- and I'm still early in my journey - it has NOT been awful giving up 'junk', fatty, and unhealthy foods.

Even after the band, those foods will smell good, look good, and tempt you - but when you're not so HUNGRY all the time, It's easier to control those urges to overeat. So you can actually eat 5 M&M's, instead of a whole package!

Good luck w/ your journey.

Many do it and I did for a couple of days. My surgeon requires a 5% weight loss before surgery so that has really controlled my need to eat all of those foods I thought I wouldn't be able to eat later. If I really want something I have a bite or two and I'm done. I also figure that if I can't control my eating now then I might make the same excuses that I always have and keep telling myself that tomorrow will be different. Well, my tomorrows turned into pounds and years.

I certainly have had the same feeling at times...Now I am on the countdown at less than 2 weeks and the temptation is even harder....I had to loose 10% of excess body weight and I go in on this Tuesday to meet with my doc!!!

I am there if I control myself this weekend! UGH!!! It is hard but I can do it!

Good Luck!

Hi Gigim.. OMG did I eat! I mourned the loss of all the "food I couldn't eat again". At first I actually decided against this because of not being able to eat certain foods... (is this called addiction or what????). I ate myself into about 7 pounds more, and now I'm getting that back off. I'm re-adjusting my mindset, and back on schedule with what I want and need. food is suppose to be to nourish your body. That's it. We (I)have made it something else all together. Your body needs food for fuel..

Good luck to you.. remember this is to make you healthy again.

Molly... PS quit eating!!!lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
