Frustrated and impatient

Recommended Posts

My surgeon in playing phone tag with my psychiatrist. They've been doing this for a week. He won't even talk to me about anything until he talks to my shrink. Won't discuss the possibility or anything. Hopefully, things get rolling soon. I'm considering looking into a new doctor, but I don't know. The other one I've looked into is a Center of Excellence, the one I'm with now isn't. I'm not sure what to do. I want to get started now. I have never been a patient person and now is even more difficult. I know I want this. I know I can work it. I know it will change my life. After five years of research I'm stalled. I get everything set to go, I'm moving on it and now this. It's like a stop light in the middle of nowhere that won't turn green. Can't run it and hate sitting. What's a girl to do?

Oh, but this isn't the psych eval for the surgery. This is my maintenance psych for my bipolar. He won't even proceed with the preliminaries until he talks to her, won't even discuss it with me.

Oh, I gotcha. That does seem very frustrating. Hopefully they can connect soon.

While it may not seem like it, your surgeon is acting responsibly by waiting to talk with the psych before going further. Just think if they waited until much later in the process to have the conversation and there was an issue that needed to resolved . . . what an incredible waste of time that would have been for everyone.

I'd call both of them -- ask if there's anything you can do to help facilitate the conversation. Perhaps try to find a mutually agreeable time so they can stop with the phone tag.

Hang in there -- lots of people have roadblocks along the way to approval and surgery.

Best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
