yellowroseaz 0 Posted May 15, 2008 I am not yet banded. I am in the process of getting all my ducks in a row for ins. approval. I went to a class called the ABCs of Lap band yesterday. It is required by my surgeon. The nurse who did the class said that it is her recommendation to avoid anything that says sugar free on it as well as anything that tastes sweet on your tongue because it makes your body create insulin the same way that sugar does and it makes you hungrier. Has anyone ever been told this? That sounds way too hard for me. I can avoid sugar and sweets but sugar free stuff? Let me know what you think.
MerryHearted 20 Posted May 15, 2008 Yes, we are warned to watch the sugar free stuff too. Not that we can't actually have it at all, but that you need to monitor yourself. Generally, artificial sweeteners are not good for you and they do affect your body. Some sugar-free stuff, esp the candies that are sweetened with sugar alcohols, cause certain people to have diarrhea too. Personally, I do drink Crystal Light (aspartame) and will put Sweet & Low (saccharine) in my iced tea occasionally. They don't seem to bother me in small amounts. erikadawn 0 Posted May 15, 2008 I have heard that too, but i also noticed that when doing Atkins you were advised of the same thing. i also noticed that when I cut back on Crystal Light, nutra Sweet, and Splenda I lose weight faster. Sometimes drinking only Water is hard for me, and I use these as an treat when Im craving something sweet.
