I have been working the program intensively in the last two weeks, am talking about doing CURVES and Calisthetics five times a week. Eating Lean Cuisine and drinking 70 oz of Water everyday ---- but when i weighed in last Tuesday, the scale told me that I had gained four pounds. I was so depressed!!

Today, I had an appointment with my nutritionist, and scale at the hospital indicated that I had lost FIVE pounds in two weeks.

Conclusion, GET RID OF YOUR BATHROOM SCALE..... its in the trash as I speak!!

Amen! I had to have my hubby hide my scale! I find myself weighing myself WAY too often! I get excited at ounces lost, but get SO depressed when I've gained something. It's discouraging!

Yeah, we got a brand new ritzy scale when me and my hubby started this process. It's right on par with my dr's office scale, minus the clothes weight of course. I kept my old scale and its like 6 pounds off...

I had to just buy a new scale because I noticed every time I would weigh myself just before visiting the doc. My scale would always be anywhere from 3-5 lbs. MORE than what my docs scale says.

Well, my new one works great. Has body fat% and water% and all kinds of neat doo-dads that I'm too lazy to try to figure out.

Good advice tchilambe!

What kind (make & model) of scale do you have?

Well, I don't know about that. Yes, the true measurement of health is lifestyle, but you should keep a moniter of what you weigh.

Don't just weight yourself when you think you've done well, or you'll ge discoraged (ie. Water weight, no bowel movement), but pick on day a MONTH (the 1st is a good idea), and weight yourself then.

Don't even think about it until then. It's fun because it's like losing 20 pounds between weigh-ins.

Measure yourself instead. Sometimes you can lose inches without losing weight.

______________

There is really no need to yourself every day. That's a little obsessive - there's more to life!!! Live!!!

You have a lot of "minigoals", I noticed

i weigh myself everyday and it seems to determine my mood for the day. if i go a few days and see that ive lost like 4 lbs sometimes of Celebrate by eating something bad. and then the days when i gain a few i eat extra good. its a mind thing. im coming to the conclusion (even though i like seeing what i weigh everyday) that i need to cut back on how much i weigh myself. i should be trying to eat good everyday. its ok to have something sinful once in awhile but my way is unhealthy. its like im sabataging myself for some reason when the scale starts to go down. overall ive been losing 5 then gaining four back. talk about feeling like a failure. i am so upset with myself at this point. its been like this for 2 months. so should i only weigh myself once a week or should i stay away all together? i am obsessed to see everyday.

andrea

thanks

I WAS gonna buy a scale, but decided against it, because a friend told me I would probably be weighing myself everyday. So I didn't buy one. Now I just weigh myself once a week on the scale I have at my job for our "Biggest Loser" program. It is accurate, and I'm im not tempted to weigh everyday because the scale is clear in a whole different building.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
