Aetna POSII proving previous diets.

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I have a question for you. Did anyone have to show proof of previous diet's tried? I told my Dr. which diet's I did in the past and she wrote them in the letter to Aetna but the surgeons office called and asked what diet's I have tried in the past. They didn't see the letter from my Dr. I asked her do I need to provied documentation she said she didn't know she is just the office manager and if I do she will have the nurse call me. Well if I do I don't have any! La Weight Loss went out of business and Jenny Craig was when I was 16. Teen Weight no more was when I was around 14. I did the Zone Diet on EDiets along with Eating for Life on there to. I did Weight Watchers but my Mom went to the meetings and I just followed along with her. So if someone can please help that would be great!

Thank you!

I have same insurance and I think they just want to know that you tried everything! Did you have to have 5 year medical history? I did. I would not worry to much!

I have AETNA POS II also. I didn't have to submit proof of past diets, but my insurance coordinator in the surgeon's office suggested that I include a personal letter stating why I needed this surgery and list all past diets that I had already tried. I was approved in 3 days. Good luck to you.

I have this insurance and I didn't have to provide anything for the insurance, but my doctor's office had me fill out a form listing all the previous things I had tried. And I believe they submit that form with the rest of your forms to insurance. I didn't have to be exact either. It was something like this:

Atkins diet - June 2000 - December 2000 - lost 40 pounds

Weight Watchers - March 2003 - January 2004 - lost 50 pounds

Phen Phen - September 1997-November 1997 - lost 25 pounds

So, it was a form with this type information and I totally guessed on the the exact months. I knew around about, but nothing written in stone. I was approved in 8 days...

Aetna is NOT customer friendly regarding bariatric approvals. Aetna denied my request in December 2007 and the Lap Band surgeons had to call Aetna's medical director to ask them to reconsider. One week later I was approved. I was approved Jan 4 and banded April 14. Be encouraged.

Well thank you all for your help! I pray the nurse sends in my paperwork. She has been sitting on it for three weeks now. I am sure Aetna will be faster than her. Of couse she told me 30 to 60 days for approval or denial.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
