Joint Pain and Swelling?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced joint pain or swelling? I can think of absolutely no reason for it, but twice in past week, my ankles have been swollen, and for 4 or 5 days now, I've had some minor soreness in my joints. Most notably, the ankles, elbows, and wrists. I have not really been taking Vitamins like I should, and I'm hoping that's a proper explanation, but I'm pretty clueless.

Have you experienced this? Do you know the possible causes? I do have a call in to my surgeon, so I'm assuming I'll hear back from him or the nurse some time today.

I'm experiencing some increase in joint pain. My arthritis hasn't improved. I was a little puzzled by it, but I read that a high Protein diet does indeed cause gout, which is crystals in your joints. I don't do "high" protein diet, but it is more than I'm used to eating. Somehow I think that's what's causing it. I'm not sure. I've read that carbs have an anti-inflammatory effect on the joints and I've cut back on them. I don't know.

Hmmm...that could be it...the doctor's office hasn't called me back -- the swelling hasn't gone down -- ARG! I don't feel like I'm eating an extreme amount of Protein either...and I haven't necessarily "cut down" on carbs....

I'm swollen and clueless!

Do you eat alot of pork or seafood like shrimp? My husband has gout and he has to stay away from certain foods. You might try looking on WebMD they have a lot of info. Gout is extremely painful, and the joint(s) that have it become inflamed, red and sometimes warm to the touch. My husband has trouble putting shoes on when his flares up. Hope this helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
