I need help. I'm freaking out and worrying waaay to much over this

Recommended Posts

I don't know about your surgeon, but I'm not allowed to drink Protein Shakes. I'm required to eat solid food. The only time I'm allowed Protein Drinks is if I'm sick or the 24 hours after a fill. That fact would make your dilemma even harder for me. Do you eat fish or shellfish? My surgeon told me that was the very best source of Protein. Easily digested and lean. If you can't stand red meat, maybe you could do that???????? I have to say, I don't do a high protein and no carb diet. My doctor didn't recommend it. But the protein at every meal does in fact curb hunger and cravings for carbs.

So, I'm just going to ask it.

I am a CARBAHOLIC ! ! ! WHAT am I going to do after this surgery? I am not a meat eater. I tried to eat some tuna today for lunch and about gagged. I'm that way with most meats, so I get very little Protein in (hence alot of reason I'm here

Help...I don't want to stop this process but I'm worried I'll only eat carbs and veggies. I do LOVE my veggies too.

Well, for many carbs are like an addiction and it's hard to stop. I was like you a great deal, my diet was mostly white carbs and little Protein. Sometimes you just have to change things to get to the ultimate goal. Today I eat a lot of fish and veggies. I don't eat white carbs because I can't stop if I do. For me it is all or none so I have to choose none.

I'm vegetarian and a major bread lover. Unfortunately most people aren't able to eat bread products after being banded. I definitely can't. So for carb cravings I use whole grain crackers (and measure out one serving size), and also South Beach bars (low carbs but feels like eating carbs!) I also drink alot of Protein Shakes. When you are filled up, you don't crave anything. If you aren't ready to give up alot of food, you might want to wait a bit. I cannot eat Pizza Crust, rice, breads/rolls, cake or muffins.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
