How the surgery is done?

Recommended Posts

This might be a weird question, but do you have to be completely naked when going in for the surgery? Are you able to keep your underwear on? A bra? Anything besides a hospital gown? I heard they do it with you standing up, but then how do they put you to sleep?

From what I understand you are laying down, but your legs are hanging down. You are not standing up. I don't think that you wear anything besides a hospital gown....some people need a catheter.

They gave me a gown and said take everything else off. They gave me lil footie type booties to wear. My surgery was done laying down.

Girl, don't worry about such things. I don't take my clothes off for NO ONE. Haven't been to the gyno in coon ages.

The last thing I remember before surgery was a nurse saying, "Is this gown tied in the back?" and me replying, "I'll get it for you." and then I tried to untie it.

I was taking my clothes off for strangers. Whatever they put in that I.V., you ain't gonna give a @*@)$* what they do to you or what the hell you're wearing. You will have a gown on with nothing underneath. They put the massaging booties on you for bloodclots.

7_5_142.gif your surgery is done laying down. It depends on your dr weather or not you take off your panties or not. The stuff they put on your stomach will stain your clothes. This is not a time for modesty, this is the time for a new you! good luck.

I went in with my gown on but was told I would be totally naked for the surgery. However, everything is covered except for the window of area on your stomach they will be working on to prevent contamination. But trust me, like others said, you won't have a clue. You will have your gown on when you go in and when you come out and you wont know or care who saw what in the meantime.

Well, I wasn't extremely worried about whose gonna see me, I just don't like it. My major concern was that my surgery might take place during "that time of the month" so I wondering if they would make special accomadations for that (like letting me keep my underwear on). Anyone else had this problem?

standing up? wow, i can't imagine how they would do that. I kept my panties on and wore a gown and some slipper socks. I walked myself into the room and was still covered with my gown when I went under and it was on when I woke up..I was laying down and they put booties on to keep you blood flowing during the procedure. i remember nothing and I am sure you won't either. your nerves get the best of you really...you'll do fine.

Yep, I asked them in preop if I had to take EVERYTHING OFF, & the nurse who was as SWEET as she could be, sighed & nodded her head YES. I'm sure you're surgeon has seen his share of NAKED FAT PEOPLE.

You'll be FINE.

Young - My time of the month conveniently came the night before my surgery. They had me wear a hosptial gown and just had me put a pad between my legs. What you get to wear just depends on what your doctor prefers.

I was, and I was completely nude, so I akwardly asked the nurse.. should I put in a tampon, what could I do with a pad..etc. She said "Don't worry about it". They did put the compression stockings on my legs, I had an untied gown.. and when I woke up, they had put a bunch of towels under me for TOM and they gave me some pads the size of my head to put in my underwear lol.

You really won't care about the nudity, and your body isn't special compared to anyone elses they've seen!

It's not like the gyno, where they try to have a conversation with you while digging around in the nono places.

Hey Everyone! I was wearing a hospital gown, the slipper socks and they put on white thigh high support hose, then the compression stockings on my calves to help prevent blood clots and no underwear. I had to keep the thigh high stockings on for 24 hours after surgery to prevent blood clots. Plus I was cold and they covered me with several warm blankets. When I was wheeled into the OP room, they had me scoot over to the OP table but I was all covered up still and they had me put out my arms to put on a Blood Pressure cuff and the other arm had the IV in it, then the anethesologist just said he would give me something to fall asleep and they put an oxygen mask on me and said take a deep breathe and that is all I remember. That one breathe. Then I woke up in the recovery room. It was very smooth and they were all very nice and took very good care to be gentle and calming. And I do not remember anyone seeing me naked at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
