It is illegal to tell anyone about any medical procedures without the permission of the patient.(IANAL) The Feds take this very seriously. You really should lodge a complaint to the office manager/doctor they want to protect themselves as well as you when it comes to a chatty employee.

I would be really pissed off in that situation. I would contact the office and let them know what has happened. Some people just can't help themselves when it comes to finding out juicy gossip about someone they know.

Who you choose to tell is your business, no one elses and it's up to you how you choose to explain your weight loss. I told 2 people about my surgery. People have started to notice weight loss and so far I've not said a word. I just shrug and change the subject.
