My surgery went fine. I was banded on May 12th. I got the hosp. at 6am. By 7:30 I was in the operating room and by 10:30 I was in my room. I was in pain after surgery but nothing to unbearable. They let me have ice chips later on that day which I didn't care because I was not hungry. I had to get up to use the bathroom and try to walk out some of the gas. It was hard the first time but it is getting better each time I get up. I am home now and my port site is sore but that is it. I think the hardest thing since I got home was trying to find a good position in the bed as I don't have a recliner. I know you will do great....good luck to you and please keep us posted.

Hi,

I was banded on 5/12. The surgery went well. I had lost 14 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet. I was so glad I did it because I was worried about my fatty liver. The doctor said the liver looked good. I was back in my room by 11:30 and didn't have that much pain so I started walking. They wouldn't let me drink anything until I went to radiology for my barium swallow. I had no problems with that. I did get one dose of pain medicine in the afternoon and went home that night at 6:00. Originally I was going to stay until the next day but the doctor felt I was doing so well that I could go home. Yesterday I had more pain from the gas but the biggest problem was diarrhea. She had given me a laxative to take because of the barium. I also drank a 20 ounce bottle of Isopure zero carb (I am on Clear Liquids for 4 days). I had no problem getting my fluids in. The one good thing after all of the diarrhea is that I have very little gas pain!. We'll see what today brings. My blood pressure is very low (89/54) so I am not going to take my meds until that goes up a little. I am going to really increase the fluids today also. Anyway, I am so happy I have done this. It is so worth it! Good luck to the rest of the May bandsters.

I think you read on the other thread I posted, so I won't bore you again .

Today I'm a little more sore. I took some liquid tylenol last night but since I had to drink it so slow I was afraid it was going to come back up so I haven't taken anything today for fear of getting sick. I dropped my pepcid and lortab prescriptions off at Walgreens today so I will pick those up later and maybe will just use the lortab at night.

I drove my son to school today. Then I got some gas, picked up a form at my son's doctor's office, went through the drive through at Walgreens and then back home. I had started to feel a little light headed and weak in the car (I had only had about a sip of a Protein shake before I left home) so that may have been it. I got home and vaccuumed my living room, dusted off the tables in the living room and windexed the front storm door. Also gave my dog some Water and put a few of my son's things away. I'm trying to move around and do things but not lift to heavy of things or overdo it too much. I also finished my Protein Shake and got on the computer some. I now have my 20 oz. of Wal-mart "On the Go" premixed apple juice I'm going to start drinking so hopefully I can get all my Protein and fluids in for the day.

My throat is more sore today than yesterday or surgery day. Hopefully that will go away soon - it's more annoying than anything.

I was told I couldn't take a shower by the nurse only like a sponge bath, but I think if I get in the shower with my back facing the Water to at least wash my hair that I should be okay and won't get my tummy area wet.

My husband's job sent him out of town today until Saturday (knowing I just had surgery Monday - thanks a-holes!). So it's just me and my 6 year old. I think I'm going to have my dad come take my dog in to the kennel until Friday and then go stay with parents for a night or two just until I'm feeling a little better and my husband gets back in. I'm sure I'd survive but I know I'd feel a little better over at my parents, so why not?

Anyway, you'll be fine when your time comes. I'm up about 6 lbs from right before surgery but I guess that's to be expected, I probably shouldn't even bother weighing myself for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, take care and see you on the loser's bench when it's your turn! (And sorry this was so long-winded!).

-Heather

I had surgery on the 14th. I got to the hospital at 5:30am. I was in the operating room by 7:15am. Then I don't remember anything else until I woke up around 8:30am, post surgery. After surgery, I definitely felt like something had happened. When I was brought to my room and told that I would need to walk to the bed, I thought that the nurse had gone nutzo. There was no way I felt like I could walk, but I managed.

I had a horrible case of cotton mouth and was told that I couldn't have anything to drink until I'd been to radiology. Finally, the nurse brought me some ice chips and I went to radiology for testing.

I was then told that I needed to get up and walk. I'm thinking to myself, "These people are really crazy!" I had been on liquids the day before surgery and had to stop drinking at midnight. Now it was 1p, I've had surgery but nothing to eat or drink. I thought I was going to faint while I was standing up for my radiology test so I knew that walking was out of the question.

After finally getting lunch around 2p, I felt up to walking and surprisingly, it didn't feel too bad. I had some gas pain in my chest but a couple of extra strength Gas-X strips helped with that.

I found that sleeping on my side worked the best. That way, the gas could have it's choice of either exit with minimal resistance! I also laid a pillow underneath the side that I was laying on and that kept a lot of stress off of my incisions.

All in all, things went well. Don't know how much I've lost yet, hopefully it's a ton. Good luck to all of you.

I was banded on the 13th. Everything went well. They did repair a Hiatal Hernia during my procedure. This did add some extra pain in the rib area but not to bad. The procedure was over before I knew it. I had to walk and eat ice chips till the next day, then the barrum swallow. After that was a go I was put on a clear liquid diet and started to get prepared to go home.

Now I'm home, and all is well. Just trying to get in all of my liquid and Protein can get a little rough but just keep pushing.

Good luck on your banding!!!

Surgery Overall

I was banded 5/12. The actual surgery itself went well. A few miscommunications had me calling the doctor's office the following morning, but other than that, doing very well.

sleeping at Night

I finally got a good night's sleep last night, I was able to sleep on my right side for most of the night. I am a stomach sleeper, so lying on my back was really hard.

Pain Meds

Haven't taken pain medications since I woke up this morning. The only pain I feel is where I had a pain pump inserted. Once I removed that day before yesterday, that incision is the only one that really hurts. It feels like when you have a scab that's healed a little too tight.

Mobility

Overall good, just a slight discomfort when I get up and sit down.

Congratulations to those that are on their new journey!

I was banded on May 13. After surgery, I was feeling okay and surprised to find out I had to have a hiatel hernia repair. I was able to get up and walk the hall and eat ice chips. The second day was terrible. I did not get any sleep the night before, I started to feel nauseous and lightheaded. They took me down for the barium swallow and I thought I was going to throw up and pass out. Luckily, I didn't! Once I got back to my room I got a Migraine. Let me add that the entrance to a construction area was right next to my room. So, I got to hear all the drilling, banging and smell odd chemical things while having a migraine. They finally got my migraine med ordered. The doctor wanted me to stay another night and I insisted on going home. Once I got home, I felt sooo much better. I have had a lot of gas pain in my back and shoulder areas. I have been walking around the house. I am trying to drink all the fluids, but it is hard. Everytime I drink something, it comes right back out. I am hoping the diarrhea will go away once I start the full liquid diet tomorrow. The second day, I thought I was going to have an emotional breakdown and was wondering why I did this to myself. I am beginning to feel better and feel like I made the right choice. I have only had to take my pain med once today and I am going to just try to start taking the Ibuprophen so I can start driving soon. Best wishes to everyone!

Ok this is how it all started.. I got up yesterday morning to take my son to school, & as i was coming down the street I saw the limo in the drive way. 7am how cool was that. I went to change into my fab gown and slippers... i was allowed to watch tv until my surgeon was finished when the patient before me. My surgeon came and talked to me and I asked him what size the band was going to be and he said 10cc and it comes with a fill already....hmm cool... The anstiologist was cute and buff..lol.. he was really quick and it didn't hurt at all. I used the restroom one last time, then i went into the O.R. I felt a little buzz then i woke up in the recovery room.. My surgeon came in to make sure i was ok. I asked him how did everything go and he said perfect. I was like really he said yes mamm u were a model patient... WOW<<< How cool was that.. I have 3 holes and my port. One thing i can say is the gas pains and the pain over all was like wowwww..... I had to call them today to let them know that i needed more med's and they gave me the goe ahead...Now i'm just resting and when i say I am not thinking about food... no damn joke... I don't want to see it or smell it. When my son came in with his food i got sick to the stomach... wow....

Hi, I was banded on May 13th. Everything went well. I am getting around quite well. I am sore and swollen. One of the incessions is red all the way around it. Anybody have the same thing? I can't believe a popcycle or a Jello fills me up. I started out in January at 249 lbs. I weighed 223lbs on the day of surgery. I am looking forward to my new journey.

Diane

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
