From Tight Fill to Starving in 24 hours!

Recommended Posts

I was filled last week on Tuesday. Yesterday I ate half a piece of pizza and it got stuck - boy did it hurt! It got to the point where I had to bring it back up. It was nothing violent and really not even forced - it came up the same way it went down, not chewed enough.

Today I was much more careful - I ate small bites and chewed well, but it seems like today I can't get full. For dinner I had a cup and a half of chicken w/ rice AND a fruit and walnut salad from McDonalds - I still feel like I could eat a horse - I'm starving!

Does this seem odd to anyone else? Does anyone have any ideas why I feel so hungry all of a sudden? It's the first time I have actually felt this kind of hunger in a while.

Strange! Usually when someone goes from restricted to not overnight, it's a band or tubing leak or something like that. You might want to go in and have your fill level checked if you are still hungry and able to eat a lot tomorrow.

you werent tighter yesterday, you didnt chew it enough and got stuck. then after you brought it up you were irritated and thought that was a full feeling. that has happened to me. when i chew carefully or eat soft foods that go down easily i can eat a lot. my surgeon told me to stay away from soft stuff because it goes right through the band, and then you can eat too much.

Hey Favorite, Thanks for that little piece of information. I have been playing it safe by making mealoaf my food of choice. It's easy to make and goes down without a problem. I usually mix a bunch of veggies in it to make it healthy. I can see that what your Dr. says is true it does go down easily and some days I don't feel full and eat more than I should.

Hey, thanks for this info... I'm sure this is what it is as this morning I wasn't so careful and again I could feel the food get stuck - it wasn't a huge chunk of food so it didn't hurt very much, but at least it let me know the band was there and doing what it was supposed to.

Also, after reading your post I thought about what I had to eat yesterday and it was all soft.

Thanks so much!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
